in the states, you register that copyright w/ the library of congress. dunno what you brits do.
you should register your works w/ a performing rights organization as well, especially if you are-- or there's a chance of-- getting radio airplay. not a concern w/ pirate or internet radio.
you can also assign your copyright to creative commons-- look into it.
