Just curious how would you go about keepin your tunes safe? I dont think my tunes are all that great where I would worry about people stealing them but those who send tunes on this website do you worry they would get swiped? and how do you go about copyrighting your music or making it so that it is yours ? just wondering about that...

if you say something's copyrighted, then it is.

in the states, you register that copyright w/ the library of congress. dunno what you brits do.

you should register your works w/ a performing rights organization as well, especially if you are-- or there's a chance of-- getting radio airplay. not a concern w/ pirate or internet radio.

you can also assign your copyright to creative commons-- look into it.

Just burn a CD of the track, project file and score (if theres a score) and stamp it. mail it to yourself in a sealed bag (you know those protected ones) and don't open it, its more then enough to stand up in court cause its got the date on it and its the original work..Since its unopened It'll show you was the first person to have that piece of work so it belongs to you, as its untouched..

better off spending some money now, then having to sue people with a lawyer

As soon as you create something, the copyrigjht is yours.

As pointed out, if your going to get airplay (and tv) then you should register with a few performing rights organizations. They will collect fees from anybody that plays your tune and send you a check every quarter.

Ultimately, I wouldn't worry about copyright. I highly doubt your big enough for anyone other than a couple of heads to want to get copies of your tunes (no offense - please prove me wrong!)

Instead, embrace the fact that people like to share music and let it help you build a name for yourself. Once your big enough to have vinyls pressed and cds in the big stores, then worry about it.

If i got my tunes played by dj's on the regz i would then look into getting stuff out there and worry about getting some smash for it.

Till then i'm quite happy throwing them about to anyone who wants a copy.

I don't give out digital files, unless I can live with the worst of consequences: somebody steals the tune and calls it theirs. If somebody can make money on my music, I'm ok with it. I tried making money of my music, but it never really worked out...
