Distortion & Bitcrusher Plugins

Distortion & Bitcrusher Plugins

Distortion and bitcrusher plugins are used to add excitement to a sound. Used heavy handedly, they can also ruin a sound (intentionally or otherwise).

Some links to recommendations for distortion plugins and bitcrushers:

01 - Distortion plugins 1
02 - Distortion plugins 2
03 - Bitcrushers
04 - Degrade plugins

Do you know of any good ones? (List 'em with links below!) 8)

Thanks

Patrick :)

well ya cant really go wrong with good old (possibly now over used ) camal phatt. small but still packs a nice punch i think. or if ya want a more authentic fell 1 of the amplitude plug ins i think works nicely as well.

Just to clarify for those who are new to the word of music production, you're refering to d16 Decimort & Propellerhead Reason Scream 4 Distortion Device

For distortion theres only one word...

Amplitube.

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/amplitube/m ... einfo1.php

:U:

If you're aiming for subtle or guitar-amp style distortion, its perfect.. Best amp emulator money can buy and even the price isn't to hefty, considering what its competitors are charging (its around £200)

The only con is its quite CPU heavy and when you drop from "hi" setting to "mid" or "eco" you REALLY hear the difference and its not good.

All genuflect before the greatness that is Ohmicide.

Multiband, multi-algorithm distortion monster that will just chew your shit up, spit it into your mouth, and make you love it.

That's my first official dubstep comment. :t:

I'm using massive right now for synths, and it comes with distortion and bitcrusher features. How does Massive's dist/bc compare to other dist/bc programs? Is it worth downloading other plug-ins for dist/bc, or am I good with what comes with Massive?

IMO yes, because you can't use the distortion/bitcrusher in massive on other VSTi, and samples. Also their is other flavours of distortion/bitcrusher, and some plug-in have more flexibility then the ones in massive.

I like the bit designer in reaktor for bitcrushing, also like CMT VST (which is free).

For distortion I use to many, the ones in FL, the ones in guitar rig, lots of the ones in reaktor, and lots of freeware.

Three words:

Ohmicide

Amplitube/Guitar Rig

Sonalksis TBK2 Digital Grime Box

===

Ohmicide - An extensive multiband distortion with so many controls it can take a year of use before you wrap your head all the way around this beast. If I had to have just one, this would be it.

Amplitube/Guitar Rig - for guitary amp/cab sounds.

Sonalksis TBK2 Digital Grime Box - Uhm, hello, it's call the Digital Grime Box, what more needs to be said? This thing is way more than a one trick pony type bit reducer. Get on it

Tried it didn't like it too much. I had high hope with the feature set. Anyone else like this thing?

Ohmicide every time for me, but if your on fruityloops the fast distortion does the job acceptably if you cant get hold of anything else. fruitys stock plugins are pretty good generally tbh.
