DJ Zinc vs Jedward - The battle of taste

Postby SometimesSean » Wed Jan 27, 2010 10:36 pm

Over in the NuSkoolBreaks forum there was a post joking about Jedward. Later down the thread the poster mentioned "on a seious note" that he'd like to see DJ Zinc - Wile Out do well.

The contrast in tunes was unquestionable. Yet one will do well, guaranteed, and the other will hopefully do well, but you never know! Why should junk like Jedward be rewarded with guaranteed success because of iffy marketing, and hard working producers, making great crossover tunes like Wile Out, be uncertain about even entering the top 20? (or whatever spot this track is expected to peak at)

I'm sure there is a huge amount of Zinc fans here! We started up a Facebook group (oh, the revolution!) in an attempt to spread the word and get some justice for the chart machine, instread of it being abused by the likes of Louis Walsh. If you think there are some friends you can convert, then help pimp this group and get some decent music celebrated in the top 10.... even the number 1 spot!

The fact that blunt edge has been ruined with these annoying vocals, just so it could even come close to 'charting' is kinda hypocritical.

There was nothing wrong with blunt edge, it was a big tune and made waves before this version and preposterous video.
But, people will go out and buy this,(if it charts, people who buy jedward, will probably buy this) and it will be the more popular version, even tho its the weaker version, same way people will go out and buy jedward even thou its weak music.

doh the irony.

Yeah I agree that vocals can kill a decent dance track, but I think Zinc has drafted in something that balances with the track really well. I don’t think he’s undermined his own productions, but of course there are always going to be people who don’t feel the original needs to be messed with.

Like you said though, it makes the track more commercially viable, so at the same time it means a great track has more chance at success. Building up a big fan base and educating people about your music is what it’s all about really - Kind of similar to DJing. Cheers for the response though man, I respect what you’re saying.

the general population has questionable taste in music, and good marketing makes bad things popular. no news here, really.

No news at all Rachel, but thats no reason not to spread the word of good tunes (for me).

Capo Ultra. It's not an exercise in manipulation, it's just a bit of fun with a touch of justice. Don't sweat it bro ;)

Nu Skool Breaks it ain't braiden, it's just a conversation that popped up on that particular chat forum. I don't see why it can't make top 20 though, even top 10. It's got the right ingredients, it just needs a good amount of support, perhaps from people that don't usualy cross this sort of music. I'm assuming Zinc added the MS Dynamite vocals to Blunt Edge to broaden it's appeal, so it must be the path the tune has been directed in!
