i dont see whats so funny.

a lot of "dubstep" has some pretty generic synth sounds

its funny because 95+% of dubstep is created using software, not 'crazy hardware setups'

we are all pot heads too broke to buy real hardware lol

init. unless skreams alter ego is secretly timbaland. you got fruity loops at home? coz i think youl find "pleasure" and "better" by benga are both factory samples.i too was fairly surprised but not all that much.i found a great respect for benga being able to create such works of art on " bedroom software". also i think youl find most producers cant afford all the flash gear. only a few producers/djs make a solid living from the music. distance for example, is a builder by day (or so iv read)

these are some great points of view guys, respect the low funds and all but you could make some seriously powerful dubstep with a huge modular synth or something.


I just wanted to talk about anyone makin some powerful music with powerful hardware synths.

NOT to hate on software, or even talk about it.

When I saw Bass Clef he had nothing but drum machines, synths and a trombone, it was brilliant, I don't know why the dubstep scene (a lot like the jungle scene) puts up with all their favourite djs just spinning records when you go to see them.. how is that a performance? it's no different to listening to tunes by anyone, sure they may be dubplates, but it's still just a record being played.

its not always that way tho.iv seen jazzsteppa live.awesome. i do think that turntables are an instrument and not just a way to play music but in a kind of unique abstract way.kinda like production on the fly almost

I've got a Moog Prodigy but its got no midi so its a bit long winded using it in tunes but it does sound phat. Got some guitar hardware but I prefer using software for guitar stuff now as u can monitor the signal wet whilst recording it dry. Nero's just got a Moog Voyager which is very phat indeed. Hardwares nice but its all about computers these days u don't need any hardware to write sick music, having too much kit just distracts u from writing music. Having said that is worth splashing out on a good mic (£1000+) if your gonna record vocals as this makes a big difference.

well u can make pretty fuckd up stuff with software anyway, the fact that everybody's using fruity/reason is because is a new sound still and most people havent had the time to experiment more, i'd expect to see big changes in the sound in the next few years... yeah synths are good but with software like max msp, reaktor, etc u make next level sounds, i bet most of the huge names of sound design use these instead of synths nowadays, some of the stuff u can do on those u wouldnt dream of doing in a hardware synth (perhaps with hybrid hardware/software synths like kyma, at least that the only one i can think of now)... of course depends on the style, some people dont like sounding so digital... bass clef sounds amazing, and i know cloaks uses hardware (only?) with huge analog sounds n noize...
