Re: CD...normalize

What normalization does is this: work out the highest peak in the track and then boosts the volume of the WHOLE track so that the loudest peak peaks at 0 dB. This does not reduce dynamic range which is what compression does. If the tracks are about the same volume, I'd say leave it no need to norma...

Re: Comparing less mentioned DAWS

Ableton is for pussies. My lecturer actually said that about 2 weeks ago  But yeah try demos before you even think of shelling out your hard earned cash. Certain DAWS have certain advantages over each other, but if you know what you're doing you can produce professionally on anything. Find out...

I'd definitely use it (in fact I had a dodgy copy but that died on me last year), so I'm using Pd for my more unusual ideas.

Re: Music Production Books

I've got that book, it's pretty good - I'm doing a degree in music tech and it taught me a few things as well as being good revision. It won't teach you how to make a good tune, but it's got some really good technical knowledge in it and the bit about how the industry works is good as well. I'd defi...

Re: PUT YOUR WORKS-IN-PROGRESS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.

ANOTHER new track. If someone could PLEASE give me feedback on my two soundcloud tracks that would be great, I don't get many opportunitys for input so if anyones got any tips/praises/criticisms/suggestions regarding my two starter tracks it would be awesome! I haven't been producing for long so I'...

Re: making breakbeats

One thing that radically improves the sound when you're using single hits is on the high hats alternate the velocity of the hits (hard, soft, hard, soft). Then have a look at the kicks, you got a few in quick succession? 1st hit hard, 2nd softer, 3rd even softer etc. If you really want to give your ...

Re: How Long Did It Take You To Actually Get "Good" At Producing

Define 'good'... I've been producing electronic music for 2 1/2 years now and messing about with recording and production for rock based stuff for a year before that. I'm certainly a lot better than when I started (I sometimes look back to tunes I did a year ago and wonder what I was thinking) but I...

Re: help on the mastering side....

What the others said, and here's a few other ideas: Check out how your mix is sounding on as many different sound systems (good to bad, hell even check how it sounds blasting out of your mobile phone) then go back and adjust your mix. You won't get it sounding perfect out of everything, but you can ...
