Re: Writing in key/key qualities

there are HUGE differences in the "feel" of each key. i cant remember where i got this from originally but regardless here a list of characteristics: C Major:
Completely Pure. Its character is: innocence, simplicity, naïvety, children's talk.

 C Minor:
Declaration of love and at the sa...

Re: That French synth we all love

a must for this this sound IMO is having a multi oscillator mini-moog style synth creating it. i prefer the Pro53 personally but most electro producers will probably tell you the impOSCar/Minimonsta are a better sounding choice. its heavy heavy unison that gives you the sound, which i guess is the s...

Re: Dj'ing Dubstep with Midi Control (ableton)

Thanks for all of the tips. I am still currently waiting for my mpd to get in, but once it does I am sure I will hit everyone up with more questions. I think I am going for a set up similar to that of xrylex's and blinx's. The ill gates template seems like a great place to start. right on man. dyla...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

limit the fuck out of your midrange stuff. if it's already fuzzy and aggresive, it'll only make it moreso. lots of synths leads, etc, you can make essentially be all RMS-- they don't really need ANY transient info. forget this namby-pampy sissypants compression stuff, set your compressor to stun an...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

even if your room isnt treated properly you shouldnt yuo beable to "trust" your years expecially if your accustomed to listening to pro tracks on your setup? isnt this part of training your ear? Im not tyring to say your doing anything wrong i jsut think maybe over thinking things a littl...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

Another thing is monitors, what are you using for making tunes? Sometimes you just have to over or under compensate certain frequencies if you don't have pro monitors and some treatment. Most lower end models are lacking a bit in the mids and highs. After a while it becomes second nature to compens...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

Here's my 2 cents. I'm not that great at getting my mixes loud, but I do have a little bit of input on this. First of all, have you tried compressing the bass with standard compression rather than parallel? Parallel compression sounds awesome, especially on drums, but it's not necessary on a lot of...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

Saturation is a good way to squeeze some volume out of a sound without using a compressor. But as some have said, just turn it up. If you have your drums where you want them, then mix the rest of the tune around the drums. If you're going into the red after adding mid-range bass, then you may need ...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

(even when i match the volume level of my track next to mastered brostep banger's volume level) Are you turning their tune down, and not turning yours up? That will make for better judgement because you aren't concerned with their mix sounding so loud when listening. The mids/highs/bass should be p...

Re: Bass processing for loudness?

Ldizzy you the man. i think thats totally what i needed to hear. i think you are likely right, ive got some harsh frequency content going on that sounds totally shit if the buss is cranked higher in the mix. im gonna freq sweep/notch out that shit and re-adjust everything.... the volume limit i curr...

Re: Dj'ing Dubstep with Midi Control (ableton)

i dj with ableton... all the guys saying "dont bother" or "just get traktor" or "just trigger clips" are all missing the point. launching a bunch of clips that you have cut up from tracks, or doing the deadmau5 approach with your own tracks are not dj'ing. thats def mor...

Bass processing for loudness?

my production struggle this week is getting the right volume/perceived loudness from my midbasses... let me state first off that yes ive read the gain structure awesomeness thread. im all about proper gain structure. so my drums are loud, parallel compressed, and slam! my drums are peaking around -7...

Re: Modulating your sub - tips and techniques

im just gonna skip all of my facepalm reactions to various things ive read in this thread and try to address the OP. modulating pitch and amplitude are really the only two variables for the sub. so if you want more movement, do the painstaking process of copying (manually in most cases) any pitch be...

i think he is creative... and his stuff is going to come out on Never Say Die in the near future.. so he is def going to be getting more attention.
but no question he straight up JACKED the skrillex bass growl by sampling it.

Re: stereotypical bro-snare production technique?

its def more than some standard eq boosting, compression, and solid sample selection. im having good results with compression>eq>reverb>gate>saturation>smallreverb for getting the samples to gel together and sound like one sample... BUT.. it doesnt have the bro-snare vibe and the megasnare feels out...

stereotypical bro-snare production technique?

trying to recreate that 200hz-pendu-snare+whitenoise vengeance snare+reverbed clap that is so prevalent amongst brosteppers. (bare, skism, etc) i feel like im missing an obvious step to making the layers sound like one sound. also the layered result come across pretty harsh to my ears and most of th...

Re: using basslines in audio question

i def think this is personal preference/trial and error for your own workflow... but i will say that most of the bigger name guys that i know are bouncing down full bars/2 bars/4 bars of HEAVILY PROCESSED sounds. then processing/editing further once its in audio. i do pretty much the same thing... s...
