Re: The Official Growl Bass Thread

Worked up some new growls while making this remix. Just tried to work on making them sound good and clean, not necessarily moving forward with the hook sound or skrilly bass. https://soundcloud.com/avinosis/far-too-loud-acid-9000 let me know if anyone is interested in a particular one. i'll gladly ...

Re: One KRK RP5 much quieter than the other?

Curious how you know its not the cables or the interface? How did you test this? Another pair of speakers? That being the case Id say one of them is fucked. Swapped the cables between the two monitors, right one still works with the left monitor's cables, swapped the outs so L monitor goes into R a...

One KRK RP5 much quieter than the other?

Easy, I'll keep it short since I hate reading shit like this: Bought pair of KRK RP5s 3 months ago, worked fine until yesterday when suddenly the left monitor became very quiet and distorted Come home from work today and tried pissing about with them, listening to constant audio to see if anything f...

Re: How to make my kicks have more punch?

Everything SunkLo said is solid advice. Mess with layering kicks, combine a nice low 808 kick with a punchy kick from a sample pack. Experiment with different combinations. Mess with the amplitude envelopes (I really can't stress how helpful that advice was when I first learned it) it can literally ...

Re: Selling sample packs - Is it worthwhile?

This is kindof a tangent off of OP's original post, but I've got a capable microphone, and I've been thinking of recording some samples of things around the house (rimshots, shakers, guitar, etc)... Would it be acceptable to just upload a .zip of an organized collection of .mp3 samples? I'm gonna tr...

Re: How would I make drum samples like this?

Pretty sick song. First off, listening to it, you can hear that most, if not all, of the percussive elements are being low-passed to some degree. Some more noticeable than others, it's there. It's just a matter of degrees. The reason it sounds good is because of the context in which it's used in thi...

Re: Im hearing a clicking sound while sidechaining compressi

Try increasing the attack of the compressor. Either that or increasing the "knee".

I know the click you speak of and it can be very annoying. Simple fix though, just fiddle with the settings.

Re: Chord Progressions?

Honestly I start most my tracks with a melody that is progressing nicely. So i guess that's chord progression. I run a basic kick snare to keep the beat, but I typically program the beat more intricately after. Creating a melody is the most important and first thing i almost always do, because i ma...

Re: Is my laptop's sound card enough?

If you're serious about producing, you'll want to get an (external) audio interface. There's tons of useful ideas in the guide to producing dubstep sticky. I recommend starting there.

Synkro-style subby kicks?

I'm trying to synthesize kicks similar to those in the song "Guidance" by Synkro & Indigo. I can tell it's a sine wave being pitch-modulated the way standard kicks are made. But with more decay, so you really get that "bongy" effect. I've tried using Massive and Analog and pi...

Re: Neuro Funk Dubstep basslines?

Neuro Funk usually features a Reese Bass. You can google it, but to put it simply, it's 3 saw waves detuned to get that unison effect, and then with a bandpass filter with the frequency being modulated. That's a simple explanation, but I'm sure there's tutorials on youtube, or even on here.

Is UKG still popular in the UK?/UKG track exchange thread

Being from Canada, I missed the Golden UKG Era of the early and late 90's. I actually want to know if clubs in the UK still play, or if there are clubs dedicated to the UKG sound? I also think this thread could be used as a back and forth for sharing old Garage and Speed Garage tracks. Since I'm sta...

Re: That French House Bass...

I've been playing guitar for years, but a) I don't have the money for a bass guitar, needless to say all the preamps etc I would need, and b) I'm not entirely convinced all french house artists record themselves playing. Obviously Fred Falke is crazy good (Intro has an amazing bassline) but I don't ...

Re: That French House Bass...

Ok, so I didn't mean a VST in particular, but in FL Studio there's a preset called "Electric", and if you cut certain feelings it kinda has that sound. But basically the bass sound I'm looking for, if you want examples is really prominent in these three: "Take Me Ce Soir" by Seda...

That French House Bass...

I've tried unsuccessfully to recreate that funky French House bass sound. Does anyone know how artists like Daft Punk and Patrick Alavi used to do it back in the day? Is there a VST that has a preset or capabilities to create this type of sound?

Those two by Synkro and Ital Tek were sick. Checked out more from Ital Tek, and I like what I hear. Thanks for the suggestions.

Laptop problems with FL Studio 10.

Hey, Just recently bought a new laptop along with FL Studio 10 demo, since everybody is going on and on about it, but I'm experiencing multiple problems. For one thing, I live with my girlfriend, so I have to use my headphones pretty much all the time. But for some reason when I'm previewing samples...
