Me and the Mrs are off to L.A for a week in April, we will be staying in the Echo Park area, was wondering if any L.A natives or folks that have been a few times can recommend any g...

Re: (LDN) Sat 9th April Instra:mental Album Launch

I thought that overall it was a very good night, I like the Scrutton Street warehouse venue, bit of a shame there where not more people in attendance but then again always nice to have a bit of space to move. Only caught the last 20 minutes of Kassem Mosse which was a bit of a shame as I had been lo...

Re: BLOC Weekend 2011 (DMZ, Joy Orbison)

Another question. How strict are they on the ol' pharmaceuticals. and whats the deal with alcohol? is it like other festivals where you can't really take your own into arena's and stuff? Security has got tighter over the last few, I was searched by security in the venue a few times when I was just ...

planning on going this year. whats the atmos. like? This will be the first Bloc I'm not going to but that's not from choice just from financial problems, the atmosphere is normally very positive, there is a good mixture of all sub-cultures of people if you can call it that (hipsters, beardy chin st...

Re: Hearing Loss Danger - High vs. Low Frequencies?

Sound first reaches the outer part of the ear (pinna and concha) due to the shape of the folds of your outer ear longer lower frequency wavelengths tend to be scattered whilst shorter higher frequency wave lengths are focused to the auditory canal. Due to the size of the average humans auditory cana...

Re: Hearing Loss Danger - High vs. Low Frequencies?

Just recently tryin' to understand some of this stuff, so I'll tell you straight out that all of this might be wrong (if so, I invite one of the more knowledgeable cats to make rude corrections as necessary) BUT the way I've been understanding it, high frequency sound waves have a much higher energ...

Re: Hearing Loss Danger - High vs. Low Frequencies?

thanks for all the replies, and keep em coming! I'm really having trouble working in the studio producing dubstep in the safe 80-85 db range. Dubstep (and a lot of dnb, and other bass heavy stuff) always seems to read a lot higher on the db meter than other types of music at a similar subjective vo...

Re: Hearing Loss Danger - High vs. Low Frequencies?

As far as hearing loss is concerned the majority of peoples ears will over time be subject to detriation through age (presbycusis) in the 4-8kHz frequency bands, the problem is that if you combine this with noise induced hearing loss you can end up with a massive notch in the audiogram of the person...

Re: America vs UK

So in that sense the difference between the UK and the US is sort of like the difference between Miles Davis and a high school jazz band. That's a bit much. The difference is that in the UK it's a massive part of their music scene in general, where as in the US it is but a small portion of our musi...
