Or you can play with an Eq, Use a slim notch and boost it a lot, now sweep up and down until the nasty fuzz really pops out at you, then flip the notch down to a cut and play with the Q until you take out the majority of it. If it still sounds like shit then its a crappy sample. Don't bother using ...

yeah, I've been looking for a good mail order place in the US that'll sell me some dubstep vinyl, preferably on the west coast.

disc 2 of Subliminal Sandwich almost never left the cd player in my car for a year. It's one of the reasons I started making music in the first place.

layering, layering, layering Not necessarily. The best drums IMO are very simple but sound fat anyway. well yeah, of course it all depends, as with everything but I find it useful to do a little sound design by mixing and matching single hits. The results can still sound simple if it's done correct...

also, garbage in-> garbage out. If you have doubts about a sample you're using, toss it. I know that seems pretty obvious, but it took me a long time to figure it out.

also, and I don't mean to condescend in any way, in my experience people who claim not to like hip hop usually haven't heard the right stuff.

ALL music is interrelated. All art is interrelated. "art" and "non-art" are interrelated. EVERYTHING is interrelated. Our monkey brains, offensively hip hop or not, need labels and classifications for the sake of practicality. The map ain't the territory, though.

Beef is inevitable in ANY large group, much less one that interacts mostly through the internet. Since you can't hear someone's tone of voice, see their body language etc. misunderstandings are more likely to happen. Even worse, this lack of info dehumanizes the interactions to the point that nobody...

I live in alaska, and I don't know how I possibly would have discovered dubstep if I hadn't stumbled on the gutterbreakz blog. For that matter, my musical tastes would be completely different if it weren't for file sharing. I'm not saying he was right for posting 320s of those songs, but people real...

Crime and Grunk from Alaska here. I make dubstep, rock/ambient/experimental, and am part of a beat making crew. I'm EXCITED about dubstep as a genre. Excited the way I was about oldschool ragga jungle.
