All scenes have their own aesthetics and beliefs beyond mere musical preference. That's obvious just by looking at the fashion. It extends to a implicit set of beliefs. Nu jazz prides itself on worthy ideas of progression, worldyness, spirituality (look at the record sleeve...

gilles peterson has always been one of my favorite selectors and has been a big influence on me as a dj. the man has taste and it's great that he's showing love to dubstep. he was playing "request line" years ago, so this isn't new. i fell like fans of niche genres like dubstep often don't...

this might be a weird observation (and maybe i'm crazy or just a total fanboy) but has anybody else noticed the similarities between burial and the early 90's shoegaze rock band and cult favorite "my bloody valentine?" both artists are extremely reclusive. both are known above all else for...
my 2 cents although there are some stunning 'stand out' tracks on Untrue, Burial is a better album. it gels more conherently. more importantly, the first album had a real mysteriousness about it; it was really sadly nostalgic but you couldn't put your finger on why. Untru...

damn, those are some big samples. very risky. i hope the majors don't catch wind of it. a man could lose everything getting sued by the original copyright owners, and the album would instantly go out of print.
nah the owners would o...

he said dubstep was essentially slowed down dnb
Now this has started to bother me because he blatantly hasn't had a proper listen to whats going on. For someone so forward thinking I'd expect him to see what started jungle in this scen...

it's an album of love songs! oh no! :o ha! such an alien album, but such a human one at the same time. really hits a lot of chords.

speaking of "alien" anybody else notice the creepy pads on track 1 are from the movie "alien" (maybe "aliens").

i remember hearing this same bullshit argument back in 96/97 regarding roni size/reprazent bringing in the wrong crowd and ruining drum&bass. you know what happened? nothing. drum&bass destroyed itself years later, by itself, without the help of anybody from the outside. i don't mean to be a...

haven't received my copy yet, but have listened to clips on amazon, sotu, and bleep etc. honestly i'm digging it even more than the first album. i always wondered how burial would top that but "untrue" does it, and the direction he's gone in makes so much sense. in interviews he always men...

ok everybody, breath. my original argument was with seckle's first comment, and frankly i'm not trying to prove or convince anybody of anything (at least not 5 thread pages later, jeez). let's get the record straight though. i agree with most of you so far in that i believe a true artist's drive to ...
this scene isnt about making tons of money . not about that at all.
yep that's right, it's a "hobby" you do after your day job, which is why genres and artists like this burn and fade out fast because adult responsibilities (like paying bills) come a knoc...
