What currently works for me is to build up a 'master' loop of 8-16bars with lead, pads, samples, bass, drums, all parts playing, and possibly a second one for a breakdown. I keep these intact but in the score at the end of the track, and start deconstructing and combining individual elements to buil...

what would you need midi/audio interface for if you've got the faderfox midi mixer?? :S The faderfox is only a 'control surface' - it transmits midi messages from the crossfader, buttons, switches etc. It connects via midi to an interface/synth rather than direct to a computer by usb/firewire. I go...

You'll make yr wobbles better by learning as much as you can about music composition and studio production. Don't try and learn 'dubstep' 8)

It sounds like you know your stuff if you've learnt protools, logic and reason. I'd personally go back to using reason rewired into logic but hey, ask 10 people get 20 different answers  I was a cubase user for many many years until I switched to Logic at the beginning of the year. I don't know...

I use a Faderfox DJ 2 midi mixer with Traktor - works a treat for me, lots of control, solid, compact too.

It isn't a midi/audio interface though so you'll need one of those if you don't already have one 8)

do mixers, as in dj mixers, act as soundcards? so i could use one instead of the internal mixer in traktor, and plug my headphones into the mixer and not my pc for cueing? edit: what mixer would you recomend a, behringer vmx100?? I'm not totally clued up on this as I kindof only really know what I ...

Hi you need a soundcard / interface with 2 pairs of stereo outs in order to cue music in the headphones separately. In the settings menu you can specify one pair of outs to 'master' and the other pair to 'cue', then select which deck to cue through the phones from the button on each mixer channel. V...

I have done it before where I just high pass the tune a bit and then hide other parts of the song with my own sounds. It also requires your tune to match the key / chord progression but I think you would want that anyway so the vocals make sense musically. I've done the same and it can work but rea...

Ah right, I see. I stuck all the logic samples & instruments on an external HD to avoid clogging up the main internal HD. Follow the advice that's been given on this thread and you should have many happy trouble-free years of mac! ;)

I know this is a massive step up from what is going on now, but, perhaps what we should be aiming for is many sub-production-forums. one for each DAW, one for EQ/Compression/Mixing/Mastering queries, one for synthesis, one for percussion, one for "new commers" (read: ask about ur wobble h...

trouble i have is i have 2/3 of the mac hd full of vst's Wow, and you honestly use all of those?? ALL the succesful producers I know in all genres use a suprisingly small amount of gear / plugins... those they use they know inside-out though. I'd suggest backing up, wiping the HD and reinstalling e...

Can't comment on that setup, although it doesn't look as robust as a Pioneer CDJ/Mixer setup. Why not buy some digital releases, download the demo for Ableton or Traktor and 'spin' off your MBP. Certainly would be a quick way of getting up and running. You can run loads of effects from within Ableto...

Re: Producing with Reason3.0

I just found out about dubstep last friday and I havent been this inspired by electronic music since the mid 90's. 8) Good innit! What effects do you all put on your drums? I guess a better question is how do you keep all the verb from drowning out the mix? Heavily EQ'd / high-passed verb, only on ...

I found the Pioneers really easy to use - first time I played on them for 20-30 mins then straight to a club and played a set on them. Solid bits of kit too.

Never used Serato so can't comment on that.

Nice! Great chord progression. If it were me I'd go for a bright, simple melody that cuts through over the top and adds extra harmonics if you fancy keeping the electronica/BoardsOfCanada vibe, or break the tune up into distinct sections by treating the bass in another way and dropping that in for d...
