I use the old shelves from my now sadly deceased beer fridge, they're perfect, not too big, nor too small as they'll fit anything from lil' netbooks and 13" jobbies up to 17" beasts. Due to the way the shelf had a little lip at the back, now when it's upside down it elevates my laptop gent...

Use the proper gear for starters, shouldn't fuck up too much then.

Try getting hold of an genuine copy of Traktor with a NI Audio8, or if you must cheap skate it with a hooky copy run it through an Audio4 instead.
