never really thought of 'jamiroquai' and 'cool' in the same sentence before. still, fair play to you if you like that sort of thing. come one. guilty pleasure init. non? i dont even feel guilty, their first three albums are sick, theres no shame in it whatsoever, they wrote some brilliant music. i ...

thoughts on "Skream!"

now that the album's been out for a while, what are everybody's thoughts on it? i've got the CD version and i'm a bit disappointed. the best tracks have been floating around on mixes for months, the tracks seem to have been shortened (some sound like clips rather than full tracks), a bunch of "...

Look, I think it's cool Kode and Ape are just doing there thing, just carving a niche for themselves. They are truly unique within this sound, which is great as elements of the genre are beginning to homogenise somewhat as dubstep matures. I think its really positive that these two are trying to do...

half the shit he and spaceape say makes no fucking sense at all. more is left to the listener's imagination. all art is better that way imo. Sorry to quote you like that, but which do you want? An easy digestable zeitgeist or ambiguity. The great thing about Kode9 & Spaceape is that the ideas a...

for example burial's music speaks more to me than kode9's because more is left to the listener's imagination. all art is better that way imo. i second that It depends on whether you can find artistry in words and thoughts, I suppose... I'm very keen on total packages - music, visual art, words, and...

Kode 9 has said a lot of times that the theory he talks about doesn't play much of a role in the composition of his music. i know, but it gets brought up over and over again in every interview and article regarding his music. it's even in his press release, which i presume he wrote himself. i think...

i mean no disrespect, although i understand how my response can come off that way. it's just that when artists and musicians try to over-explain their "progressive" philosophies etc. it tends to kill the music for me. for example burial's music speaks more to me than kode9's because more i...

i love kode9 and what he's doing for dubstep and music in general, but every time i read about his "theory" and assorted psycho-babble, it really puts me off. half the shit he and spaceape say makes no fucking sense at all. admit it.

Burial forthcoming album? LP 2?

:o ok so i just checked Burial's myspace page to have another (probably about the 100th) listen to the beautiful tune "Unite," and i noticed the following text under the album artwork: Burial LP2 track01 wintr2007 Hyperdub ok, so um, does this mean there's a second Burial album dropping in...

Re: Just A Thought...

Very good point, id just like to see the scene as a bit more, "yea i got that new one from coki" and less "who the fuck's coki" well, isn't the point of a documentary to teach the ignorant about something? maybe you're looking for more of a "dubstep update" show or som...

dubwise breaks  burial is basically garage imo, just garage approached in a different way, with an emphasis on mood, texture and emotion. Shows how much room there still is to take the 2 step formula in new directions. And i don't think he's kode 9 :D i agree completely. it's 2step garage done...

media coverage isn't necessarily bad. i mean, the average person isn't going to read an article about dubstep and dive headlong into the scene cuz it's the "new craze." and honestly, in my opinion, the genre is less accessible than drum&bass so i'm not worried about over exposure. real...

not an unfriendly response, but not a helpful one either. it sounded like the guy was just blowing me off like one of those twat clerks in the film "hi-fidelity." one of the most highly anticipated dubstep albums drops and that's the response i get? you'd figure a shop that only sells drum...

is redeye always this unhelpful?

i just emailed redeye and asked if they were going to stock Kode9's "Memories of the Future" CD and if so, when? the only response i get: "I'm sure we will at some point. Cheers." that's it? wtf? that's less than helpful. i was going to wait to order from redeye, but i guess i'm ...

have had the album for a while on CD, but don't really get into it much anymore. a bit too heavy, and i've already had my fill of agro distorted bass and "evil" sounds being in d&b for over 10 years. what attracted me to dubstep was the spacey dub qualities and skankin' rhythms. d&...
