How to transition?

Post by Hawbon » Tue Dec 17, 2013 8:19 pm

I know I post a lot of threads and i'm sorry, I'm a beginner just trying to learn, I need to know how to make a solid transition from intro to drop to outro, Any time I try to make a song that doesn't use an audio track
( like a movie quote ect.) It always sounds like I just put 2 songs together and they're playing in the same track, take example my latest project. Soundcloud This sounds terrible, I love the sound of the slow rise that would go into a drop but right before that, theres this awkward part where it sounds like 1 song cutoff and the other begins, This is my main problem when making anything, I could really use some feedback and help. thank you.

Honestly don't know what I've listened too.

Firstly understand the concept of bars, that should be first.

Dude, I don't know where I am, but I really liked that tune. 0.1% irony, I wouldn't lie. I did notice there were no drums. But honestly, fuck drums. Keep going homie!

I think a lot of people are trolling you. But they all sound chasers, trying to do whats right. Trying to be cool. There's a million people doing it right, we need some people doing it wrong to figure out some new shit. You're clearly out of control, but I can see you're guided by your emotion, good place to be coming from. Pre 00:25, I could care less, heard that shit Billions of times, but after that, the longest drop I've ever heard, that is some fucked up shit. The drop just gets stretched out into a section. Crazy in there. I like crazy. I like fucked up. I'm often left in tears by children's drawings, while museums are a bore. Take it for what it is worth.

In all seriousness, I can actually see what he is struggling with. The transitions are pretty much non-existent. You need to work on structure big time. Analyze your favorite producers tracks and check out the structure, write it down if you have to for fucks sake. Drop it in your DAW and create your own track based on the structure. Listen to the transitions and what not. The problem with that track is that it all seems to melt in to one big long drop or whatever.

A few transition tips: towards the end of the drop strip down parts of the tune over time so everything doesn't end abruptly, have a certain sound or motif that you layer over the transition like in Skream's Midnight Request Line where he has a harp or whatever layered over transitions between different sections (it's three notes going down in pitch with the first two slightly before the transition, and the third right as it happens). There's plenty more things you can do but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

+1 on pretty much everything said above (at the end I felt like some weird new drug was starting to hit :? )

And if nothing else, you can always start from scratch. Just take the same sounds and make new loops/grooves/improvisations with them. Hell, start with new sounds if you like.

Don't overthink it. :K:

Thanks guys, for the most part you've all been positive, I still don't really know what I'm doing, its all a big mess right now, I have a couple more sounds on my profile that are in my opinion a little more put together, I'm going to keep working on it and post the end result. I still cant tell if the positiveness on this was serious but it brightened my day nonetheless because I cant tell if its sarcasm or not

when Burial released his first album he was seventeen, lived by his mum and made tunes in Soundforge with pencils and scissors.

i remember watching a dodge and fuski tut video where they explained something like this, intro can be like 27-54 seconds for example and forthe first 27 you can have a pad going, then the next a lead to compliment your pad ,and then drop, you should look it up i know its somewhere in yout ube but honestly i always struggled to use a bassline as a lead for my song and then still manage to pull off the intro you should consider trying to learn at least a bit of music theory so you can build some leads rhytms of your own man. :t:
