Wow :o :Q:

Adding this to the bass thread. :4:

Not sure if http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=198507 is there, but it provides plenty more Skrillex bass tutorials.

First it was the wobble, then Datsik & Excision, now Skrillex, tomorrow sthg else. Cope with it : redundant threads, trolls, people not using the search engine all are parts of any forum. There's no end to it. There's one simple solution tho : not giving a fuck! (and also threads like this one :6: ).

Good job, wub :W:

Brilliant work on the organization front Wub, tirelessly bringing all these threads together into one easily findable database. Must have taken you along time and signifies a dedication to the forum, so big respect for that.

On the other hand, i can't help but notice the rhetoric of something of this nature existing, the title of the thread speaks for itself, the implications of which pointing towards a pretty (erm... lazy?) agenda of the current Dubstep production culture. Even though someone as seasoned as yourself wub would obviously not benefit personally from such a compilation of resource. The fact that even someone like you has been pulled into supporting this sub-cultural status quo inherently lacking that necessity for personal creativity speaks volumes.

I would advise that those seeking this kind of information (copy this artist, et al) should never take it as gospel, and should always absolutely make sure the learning process gained from 'copying' is filled not with a point for point likeness, but be used simply as a foundation upon which to colour the basic theory with your own personal flare and unique spin.

A fair warning, almost certainly debated to the point of bitterness already, but i feel also important to highlight here. No diss-respect intended! Creativity is precious and tough love is important sometimes. :w:

peace!

See, that's the thing - it didn't. I used Advanced Search to show all threads within the Production sub forum with 'Skrillex' in the thread title. Opened up each thread in a seperate tab, weeded out a couple which weren't relevant then cut & paste the URLs of the others together with their thread titles.

The google search took slightly longer, but again the search criteria I used were "skrillex bass how" and "sound like skrillex", then the same cut & paste on the search results. Probably took about 20mins at most, including editing the URLs and making it look pretty.

It's the old adage of education vs. innovation. Some people like to sit down and try to replicate the sounds they have heard as a way of learning how to make them, adding their own take on things as they go along to define 'their' sound once they've learnt the basics. Other people prefer to self teach and find out exactly what everything does by themselves.

This isn't so much reflective on Dubstep culture as a whole, more a by product of the Internet generation. When I was first learning how to use FL, there wasn't vast tracts of knowledge online that I was aware of, forums like this didn't exist, and even if they did I was on 28.8kbps dial up and it wasn't practical for me to spend hours online when I could just fire up my computer and work things out for myself.

The sad truth is that, with the Internet being as it is and everything being available at the click of a mouse, some people (not all mind, this is by no means a sweeping generalisation) expect to have everything available to them for each search, read & digest.

Agreed. I add a caveat to the bottom of all the resource lists/tutorials/guides that I put together advising people to try everything, change parameters, practice etc to get their own take on things. Someone remarked elsewhere on the forum that if users are constantly trying to learn how to make the sounds of their favourite producers, they will be constantly chasing their tailcoats, always striving to emulate but never quite getting there.

In time, the users with the dedication and desire to improve will cease and move into their own ways of doing things. That's the idea, anyway ;)

I appreciate you taking the time to give your POV on this though, feedback of any nature is always good 8)

What I love about those tutorials is that you end up with a modern talking massive patch (or any other synth) and start adding your own beats and melody and find out the patch/bassline is just a fraction of the sound. Yeah you still suck. Life is hard. keep at it!

I hope people know that by just watching a bunch of tutorials and reading a bunch of articles they won't be as good as Skrillex. Whether you hate him or love him, you've got to admit hes a good producer. But this thread is pretty nice nonetheless.
