Dubstep Music Videos...

Post by xgarside » Sun Sep 06, 2009 1:48 pm

I know this might touch a nerve with some people cause theres always gonna be people that think its gonna ruin the music but not everyone thinks like that.
But as you've all noticed through the pass couple of years dubstep has really taken off, with prime slots on prime radio stations and surely enough it won't be long until someone decides to stick it on the other medium, television.

I bring this up because i'm finishing my final year of final studies at MMU (manchester) and was thinking of combining the two. There's not really many dubstep music videos i can put my finger on (official ones anyway).
So i was thinking about starting up a portfolio for it, but also dabbling in drum n bass aswell.

I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this..
- Do you think music videos would ruin dubstep?
- Do you think there's a market growing for it?

Thanks alot guys.
Garside (Ironbar)

there is definately a place for them. there another art form and expression in their own right.

i dont think there is a need for looooads of videos (for every tune) but a handfull would be good and they wouldnt lose their effectiveness that way.

I'm making a dubstep music video right now.

I am however making it a clip of the actual track..

This takes away from the apparent "mainstream" stigma that comes with vids.

It's a dutty vid too so i think i'm doing it justice tbh.

well i figure it's only a matter of time before zane lowe ends up putting some on Gonzo or something ha. (i don't condone zane lowe by the way ha) But mtv2 has some very good music late on, e.g. 120 minutes, where it's much more diverse and is a pleasure to watch the videos aswell as listen to the music.

This year i'm going to be doing alot of work and hopefully get a few dj's to agree to a making of a music video, mostly to build up my portfolio but also to test the waters so to speak.

Can anybody think of any official dubstep music videos?

- Benga & Coki immediatley comes to mind.

windows movie maker amatuer flex:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H5IemE4BAM

done quite a few of these quick ones, more so to get the tunes some exposure and up on youtube.

done a few more with actual moving video, but i dont take any credit for the actual footage cos ive just edited and slapped on the audio. im not making them to stand out as pieces of art, more so for my own pleasure and expression of thoughts. anyways have a peek:

^^vid quality is a bit poor on this, and its one of the first ones i did so not so great. got a couple others that i havent put on youtube.

i always put a little vid together for tunes i make, its easy to throw em up onto youtube and share em through gaybook.

unfortunately my video editing or music production doesn't get any further than that but it keeps me busy.

Just goes to show there are official dubstep videos, but not too many. I personally hope it will get more popular, but if it turns into some kind of Channel AKA effort, i will eat my vinyl.

Nothin wrong with it Garside, ppl got to express themselves. Music and video can create some interesting dynamics.

Here's some funny (albeit amateur) video i made for my dubstep remix of the Imperial Death March:

thanks annias, its glad to know some people think that way. to be honest with you it seems most people are in favour of it, aslong as it doesnt interfere(sp?) with the music.
Keep posting the videos, cause it's good research for me to have.
