The irony here is:

People complain there is nothing different going on. Too many producers use the same sounds in their music etc. Then, when someone DOES do something new, its the same tossers who jump in there and say "its not dubstep, this should be in the wonky trip hop country western cowboy stripper music adult contemporary forum".

The good DJs will mix all styles into one set to the point where you dont really need imaginary divider lines between different sounds used.

I remember when it was all just "Techno" nobody cared about packaging up these semi defined styles and making sub genres out of them. Djs would start a set at 110 bpm and end a set at 180 bpm. Tracks were mixed with eachother more due to tempo than genre.

subgenres are the stupidest thing ever. its gotten to the stage now where's is become subjective so discussing it seems feutile to me. and no, subgenres never have and never will be detrimental to any "scene" quite the opposite i'd say. do you not think it's great that we can lump mala and untold in the same genre?

nah man, think about jungle or drum n bass, it was flourishing for so long until the sub genres became so specific and creativity is lost as people just follow the formula to producing what sub genre of the music it is they want.

haha no bot. but i was just saying how i think we avoid sub genres so harshly (this thread highlights that i think) and how we use terms to describe sounds like filth for the datsik and borgore sounds, purple for the joker and kito sort of sound.

I think you've confused the word 'we' for 'I/me'. You personally may imagine lines of demarcation, and decide what kind of music certain artists are creating, and/or know other people that think like that. You don't speak for the majority though, and I'm sure artists don't appreciate being put into boxes either. And what if someone who does 'ragga' writes a 'filth' tune - then what box do they go in? Utterly futile.
