Videotutorial series How to *really* make Dubstep

Post by MDMK » Thu Sep 29, 2011 2:22 pm

Hi guys,

I happened to bump into this video tutorial series made my TornadoTwins. I think they did pretty good job and managed to really pay attention to smaller details of the production process. They use Ableton Live, so I guess new Ableton users benefit the most, but this stuff is good for anyone new to producing dubstep. I have yet to watch all the 17 videos, but so far they all seem good.

Yeah found this a few weeks back, they did a great job with it. Very helpful to new producers like me! :6:

I watched probably the first 5 videos before I skipped ahead to the last one to see if it sounded anything at all like their intro and outro sound, and it doesn't at all. It's great that they are making a video for beginners, but very deceaving that they would put a song for their intro/outro that is obviously outside of their ability.

It would be kind of like putting somebody else's photo on the cover of a photographer's portfolio.

I think that song in the intro and outro actually is their song, just not the one they are doing in the tutorial. They apparently have an album out, or coming out soon, and I think I would have to hear that before really judging their abilities. This is an incomplete series of videos with just the very beginning of a song in it, which makes it difficult to say whether or not they are any good.

I haven't watched it, so I can't comment on how good it is or its content. but I would be wary of any video claiming it will teach you how to make a particular genre.
There is no set way to make dubstep, so I don't understand how this can work. maybe they should rename it "how to really make dubstep that sounds like every other unknown producer out there" :corndance:

lol yeah this is very true. they are good for someone who has no clue to help them get going and even for people who do know what they're doing sometimes you can learn little things and it's nice to see how other people work

yeah man defo. take what you can from anything really. with tut videos I always find its about learning little bits, and using what youve learned to make your own new stuff rather than following it word for word
