metallic filters

Post by ephyks » Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:21 am

Does anyone know of any filters outside of massive that I can use to get a metallic sound to my basses?

I don't know of any filters, but you can get a metallic sound with a really really short delay. 0.01 - 0.10 of a step delay.

Either use short delays (30ms or less) and mess with the feedback; use a flanger; you can also get metallic tones from ringmod with some careful tweaking or use a FM synth to make a more metallic sound in the first place.

You can make things sound metallic in a different sense, by boosting considerably in the highs and notching in the same spot...so the curve would look something like this:

...in my opinion

It was free before they started charging. That's when I first got it. I think they only started charging when they updated the interface in 2.0. They probably added new filter types as well, I don't recall.

Fruity Love Philter? I know they sell a VST version in the juice pack (great buy), but they also did a free CM one?
Or you mean that VPS Philta one? If so that was fairly useless IMO... hopefully the BiFilter one is more useful.

Grabbed the demo of BiFilter. Fucking love it. It's exactly what I had in mind. I've been using a method I discovered a long ass time ago with massive to make metallic open sounds but I've become bored of how it sounds.

But since you guys are talking about this bifilter2 I will just hold my precious money until that comes out.

I came in to suggest Bifilter as well, also try comb filtering, or comb filtering then resampling that and then using a different filter.

I'm not sure, I think it's the vengeance one that I tried.
It was very limited though.

Yeah VPS Philta, pretty useless it was only a LP/HP. What made it stand out in the first place was the other features. But hey - free, so whatever.
That company is a bit odd though. I think they have the lowest costing plugins on the planet that require a dongle.
