Digital release quality

Post by nerdyluke » Wed Aug 22, 2012 10:08 am

Hi,
I'm willing to buy the Urban Ethics LP in flac or wav for best quality, and I found a couple sites like http://boomkat.com/downloads/409802-coki-urban-ethics , http://www.beatport.com/release/urban-ethics/371493 and http://www.digital-tunes.net/releases/urban_ethics . Now I thought I'd just go digital-tunes since they're the cheapest, but I found this so I'm a bit hesitant here :s I know I'm being a bit picky on this one but I'd like to be sure I get what I pay for.

Has any of you bought this LP in flac or wav on these sites or another and can vouch for the quality of the release?

The shops get there music off the distributors, if it sounds bad in one shop it will sound bad in all of them (probably)

Sound quality on download stores' streaming preview is always low to make you have to buy the record for full quality, the actual quality of the downloaded file afterwards should be just as good from any of them. My personal favourite for digital releases is Juno Download

I'm sure most sites would give you a refund if you weren't satisfied with the quality.

Not sure about beatport as far as customer service but the files i've gotten from them are as good as anything else.

You hate them because you heard a rumour? I find Beatport much easier to use and I had a very quick polite response when I had a problem (I closed the downloading program when it wasn't finished :dunce: )

Beatport are way too expensive. You know something is wrong when it's cheaper to buy the vinyl release than the digital.

Beatport probably does look the nicest/have the best preview player of the main download stores... but they are a bit expensive and the genre categories are very US-centric. There also seems to be a ridiculous amount of tracks listed under the wrong genres.

If you buy AIFF FLAC ALAC or WAV you have the uncompressed file changing the codec through a converter like XLD results in a bit perfect replica of the original.

Beatport charge an extra £1 for WAV per track it's a fucking scandal when Boomkat charge $2 per album and Juno I think charges the same price.

AIFF files are tagged correctly, you cant edit WAV files (or at least i dont know how to). having AIFFs makes things so much easier to navigate when using serato coz it already has artist, label etc

I just use foobar to tag my files (works with wav or any other format).
