People asking lazy questions should also get banned.
Threads titled "Hi guys how does i mek wobble?" with nothing in the comment except "kthxbai" should get banned.

Before asking a question put some effort into looking for an answer yourself. Google, use the search function, check other boards THEN make a thread here.
Too many people want to be spoonfed.

There has to be a big clean up here if this board is to remain useful.

Sure its pretty damn hardcore and it may even sound ridiculous but come on, something drastic should happen no?

Not sure how easy this is to address. Short of locking threads when they crop up, there will always be beginner style questions.

The only way to maybe avoid this is having a response preprepared for the more common generic questions and have that ready to copy & paste in when they get asked?
Hircine wrote:We need more threads like the growl / reese bass / how to make that dungeon thread / how to make that sound thread / how to make juke thread et coetera and those needs indexes and some moderation. (mainly to stop people from posting sound examples and be all like BRO DO U EVEN KNO HOW TO GROWL instead of giving actual feedback on how to achieve the sound and to be easier to navigate through the best tips).
I'm wary of over modding every thread of this nature, but agree this could be addressed. If there are people who just use these threads as an excuse to spam shitty patches, then you can also use the Add Foe option on their account to stop you from seeing their posts.

The OP of these useful threads also has the ability to edit/update the first post to collate any particularly useful info.

I can also be engaged at any time if you feel a thread is getting out of hand, either by PM or using the report post button.
What about a 3 strikes your out type of deal.

If you post a thread that gets locked 3 times in a week then your not allowed to post any threads for a week. It is possible to take this ability away correct? I notice a lot of the how to make (insert producer) sound threads, and other dumb threads, are posted by the same people..

It's still DUBSTEPforum isnt it?
Should we go and make all the new users move to the back of the bus whilst we're at it? :cornlol:

I admire the enthusiasm, but I think banning people because they ask questions outside of the status quo is a little severe ;)

A lot of work to implement and keep up on, sadly. And again, I don't think banning/preventing people from posting is the answer...not to mention the fact we'd all need to agree on a universal standard as to what a 'dumb' question entails.

:z:

Never had a problem using full site functionality on my phone...only thing that is a pain is quoting at times but that's an issue with the phones copy/paste functionality, not the site.

less US-style 'EDM' related questions, discussions, users
more everything else

INCOMING RANT

i'm pretty sure when i signed up hating anything trance/electrohouse/cheesy female vocals over minor chord pluck synth-shit related was the only thing everyone ever agreed on

nowadays we have like 50% of the users who want all of the above and crave, absolutely crave to be respected and allowed to talk about their commercial bland music.

i swear i have tons of stuff to discuss with you fellas, i'd love to talk about grime again, or uk funky if that still exists. talk about chopping breaks, about our influences, about mixdowns on 70's progressive rock records, about new hessle releases or whatever

thing is, while threads like that get started once in a while they either devolve into 'how do i make dis sound'-threads with people getting pissed off when theres no definitive tutorial after 2 pages, or they just die off cause the only people left with any taste in music are busy insulting the kandi bro raver cigarettes

thats another thing, there's 2 kinds of dsf veterans imo. the ones who enjoy trolling newbies and the ones who don't. the latter have already left for the most part because if you're not into trap, 'EDM' or hanna montana featuring borgore, well then trolling noobs is the only thing left to do eh?

RANT ENDS HERE

that said, more hardware threads would indeed be cool. i know, no subforums but maybe a hardware subforum? a really small one? 99% of the people on here wouldnt even want to use hardware if its not a midi controller so there won't be too much traffic and even less trolling.

that and a stickied general production chat/banter thread. no rules, except to keep it vaguely production related.

well, no...
i don't know :corncry:

i dont know man.

just give me a small pocket of forum space where i can talk to people who at least know the music i'm talking about.
like gearsluts have their dedicated areas for hip hop producers and hollywood mastering engineers cause the latter dont wanna hear about mpc problems and the former couldn't care less about the new SSL mixing desk that costs more than a yacht.

i can't post a thread on how rusties spliff dub is still awesome because it's not playing it safe by conforming to clichés like fucking trance supersaw chords without insulting more than half of the people here because they actually like supersaw chords. and i mean hey good for them but isnt this dubstepforum? then again by that logic i couldnt post a thread about roska cause he does house. but his interpretation is more close to dubstep than what's been called dubstep over the last years.

see the dilemma?

we can't get rid of them, they live here now and they're human beings too. but can't we at least build a wall so we don't have to endure one another? :4:

(realistically speaking theres not much you can do to solve this particular issue, plus you're already doing a great job so nah, no additional locking required)

Lol "they're human beings too".

The thing is i cant tell any of them apart. The tunes in their sigs sound the same and they all talk about the exact same shit. It's like having a conversation with a huge bro-ey entity who has over 100 acounts- all with ridiculous names.

There is always the option of going to someone's profile page and setting them to Add Foe, meaning their posts won't be displayed unless you specifically want to look at them.

the best you can hope for is that brostep as a trend dies asap, cos thats the only way you'll be able to think up effective changes to this board without hurting anyone's feelings

then again we all know its inevitable that if bro is dead there will be something worse on its way

Anything that's labelled Dubstep yet lacks both Dub elements and steppy drums is pretty much in that bracket, TBH

lool there you go, we now have popstep apparently!

And yeah agreed wub, even normal dubstep itself barely comes out nowadays. But atleast the progressions from dubstep have sounded far more interesting than popstep or whatevers next on that side of the sound lol. Heard some guy saying "electro swing" is the next big thing. Dont even wanna know what that is

Honestly, I think we need to be more intolerant of people who are all like,

"OMG YOU MOR0N I can't believe you don't know how to do that?!!? IM SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU!!!!"

First of all, in my experience, the loudest ones are usually the worst at what they do. And second of all, it's just not helpful. There are tons of people who are just starting out and are looking for honest help doing something creative. I've noticed you have some stock answers for people getting started with production, but I think we can all do a better job simply linking to tutorials or YouTube videos instead of being assholes.
