But hey, if you're ok with compromising your personal tastes in music in order to keep on getting gigs, then fair enough. I could never do that personally, as DJing would be far less satisfying when I have to dumb down the music I play to get gigs.
get many gigs do you

oh guys give the guy a break!

i find it really pleasant
i dont care how much effort is put in to a remix...the original is obviously stunning and this doesnt touvh it imo but at the end of the day it makes sense.....the type of sets he plays are more beatmixed & tight and uptempo so he made it *IN TIME* and smoother..maybe thats not what burial is all about but you can see the practical side of it

its nice....no remix could possibly do the original justice because its so special

Probably not, but I'd rather have a few gigs where I won't have to dumb down the music I play than many where I have to. Quality over quantity.

Please re-read what I said in my last post above yours. I dont compromise quality.

Do you DJ a lot? I bet your sets are great when you drop in some of your favourite Neo-Folk tracks or Some classic Swedish death metal. Were you the the guy I saw mixing Bluegrass into Digital Mystics. You didnt compromise quality and played across the board. I respect you for that.

This is dry.. Thanks for any support and any valid criticism...

Hopefully we will never meet again over, say, a re-edit of 'Near Dark' ;)

The mix ain't for me, my initial reaction was WHY?! But then, as 8bit said, it's not made for me. It's made for the househeads.

When you think about it, this last year (or so) we've had dubstep refixes of Bob Marley, Kraftwerk, Minnie Ripperton, Baby Cham, MFDoom, Art of Noise, Nina Simone, Eryka Badu, Movado, Barrington Levi and er... Mozart.

More recently, a few old jungle tunes getting refixed for the Dubstep dances. We didn't see too many cries of 'why not just drop the original?' or 'Sacrilege!' then.

Apart from Zinc's Request Line refix (which also went down like a cup of cold sick) this is the first time the shoe's on the other foot and dubstep's being refixed for and by another genre. With stuff like Night on the daytime playlists, catchy as fuck tunes like 2D and a catalogue of Coki basslines, I wouldn't be suprised if this is the first of many.

It's not neccessarily a bad thing though. Hip Hop saw some wicked D&B mixes by 4 hero and DJ Crystl. Masters at Work / Nu Yorican Soul made some deep remixes of Roni Size and 4 hero returned the favour with Black Gold of the Sun. All classics.

This ain't one of them, but a bit of cross polination can't hurt. Can it?

I'm not against the concept of cross-genre remixing/refixing, but making a Burial track into a house stomper goes completely against what the original artist had in mind. It's like doing a happy hardcore remix of Bright Eyes.

if you send it to a blog, your motivation is for it to be spread around to as many people as possible. apologizing after the fact is a bit silly. it's like lighting a car on fire and then calling the fire dept to say sorry.

Yeah, that was exactly my point, wasn't it.

Ah well, I'm not in the mood for another six posts of breaking my arguments down this time anyway.

Rather liking this and some of the attitudes and reactions on here were rather predictable weren't they?
