A Question For The Photography and Art Experts...

Post by blizzardmusic » Sun Mar 02, 2008 1:23 pm

Right...

Say I have a photo that I've just took. If I add effects or change colours etc does it qualify as artwork? I just want to know because I've started taking pictures and I'm learning to use Coral Draw to make pictures look good.

it depends on the effects you use...

If you just use light and color effects I think it's still a photo and not an artwork...

bit of a weird question. cant really define what art is and what art isnt. by your description they sound like 'edited photos'
if the photos are good in themselves then theres no reason why they would'nt qualify as a type of 'art'. simply applying filters or fx from a programme doesnt always make it qualify as art though.anyone can take a picture and put effects on it. it's all about the content....software is tool that can help artistic ideas but its not an art generator.
fuck labeling shit anyway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art

"Traditionally the term art was used to refer to any skill or mastery..."

"Generally art is a (product of) human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind; by transmitting emotions and/or ideas. Beyond this description, there is no general agreed-upon definition of art."

so theses are two classic pieces:

basically, if you decide it"s art then it is which is pretty cool

I love Malevich. When they had his black square, black circle and black cross all in one room in Espoo museum, I was hanging around that room for hours...

As for the original post, I don't think that anybody has come up with definite explanation of what art is, although many had attempted to. But usually people overuse photoshop effects and tricks when it comes to photography and 99,9% of the time outcome is really crappy. If the photograph is good, it doesn't need to be manipulated. First I would recommend to learn some basics of the composition, framing, use of light and so on... And observing! Checking out some famous photographers work wouldn't be bad neither.

depends on what school of thought with art that yur into, i myself, am a purest and as ah art/photography/drawing major imo anything that can be tweaked digitally is'ntto the same grade of analouge/film/hand drawn. i jus think anyone could tak ah shitty pic an get trained on how to tweak it to make it look professional but to have that eye to adjust and frame and all dat jazz on the spot/location i ah kraft and art that just cant be taught, sort of the same thing with CAD vs hand drawn, but thats jus me, as i said im a purest, and of course i know that the digital photographers out there wil say they have the "eye" as well as the purest do but to me its jus not the same, whateva milks yur gurnsey
