its weird.. you know im sure ebay makes people crazy im sure theyd never think of spendin 50quid on a 12 in the real world!
ramadanman wrote:i dont really think dmz002 is that great a record - latest ones are much more to my taste
really? its not worth £50, but a 12 with horrorshow / 10 dread / lost city / jah fire is a banger - sounds different from newer stuff, but damn some of the beats are still darker and heavier than a lot being released now.. maybe its just that i like it that bit more ravey!
ThinKing wrote:I'd feel so guilty charging somone £50+ for a 12" just because it's in demand at the moment. They're all great tunes so I'm not thinking of selling them, but fuckin hell!!
with you there, but its temptin tho aint it?!

DMZ002 is my favourite so far... until 009 comes out :)

Seriously, 10 dread commandments and horror show are still next level.

Less Represses.
More Crate Digging.

I'd be pissed if I was one of the lucky dudes to have a copy of DMZ001,2,3.

And then they got repressed.

Goes with any tune or label not just DMZ.

I've worked hard collecting rare congo natty bits.
If it all got represed, Id probably cry.

Sorry you look at it like that. :|

Id prefer to add it to the list of 1000s of tunes i want.
Then just to take the easy road of coping a repress.

I understand the side of story of lots of people desperately wanted them and it can only be healthy to do a repress.

But personally Id prefer to track a copy down and be on the lucky few to own one.

Can make a badman tune that bit more special and that more important to have in your rekkid bag.

These tunes are only two years old though. It's not like repressing beats that are years old like Natty tunes. Plenty of new releases get re-runs a year or two after their first release.

wouldnt you say the whole of dub[step] culture is based on elitism?

it's a tricky one. i think the issue here is a complicated equation between, scarcity, popularity and exclusivity.

dubplate culture isn't elitist by design, rather necessity.

Nah I'd say that's dubplate culture - I agree that it's a form of elitism in itself, but I don't think that dubstep is 'built' on this, no.

Dubplate Culture (another bunch of lengthy threads in itself, no doubt), is a necessity for any fast-moving underground music scene imo.

Yeah, that's a lame attitude. So you're more interested in preserving the rarity value and collectibility of these tunes instead of repressing and allowing a whole new bunch of people - who might have only recently got into dubstep - the chance to own a copy? Horror Show, 10 Dread Commandments, Officer, Mood Dub, Stuck, Neverland...why should people have to fork out stupid money for big tracks like these? If there's demand for a repress then it should be done...not doing so only inflates the price on eBay, which isn't a good thing.

That's just my opinion.

Wish people would quote properly :)

Heh, that still implies that you'd rather they were rare and hard to find - which is fair enough, but that seems like the attitude of a record collector. My view is that unless there's a good reason for them not to be repressed, then they should be (rarity not being a good reason). But that's just my opinion 8)

I like having tunes in my bag that I know that not many people have.
Or going to see a DJ who has certain tunes.
Kinda like dubs or specials...in a way.

That's obscene. £100 for 001 & 002. Are they really that rare? Anyone know how many were pressed?
