Its weird how the Conectiv makes the phono quieter while Serato for the most part makes it quieter... is there a way to adjust the file volume so its quieter?
Not as far as I know, apparently it'll be sorted in the next version. The only way I've heard of fixing it currently is to make a pass through circuit, so that the phono signal is on a splitter that you can select the vinyl or mp3 signal via the line/phono selector on your mixer. I've got a load of cabling to make up in the next week so I'll post up the results when I've tired this out.
Yeh please shoot me msg or post when u do this.

Unless I just can't understand the website which is dreadfully confusing.

to all those in this thread saying theyd love serato but dont have the money -
there are many really good (in my opinion just as good as serato) free pieces of mixing software out there.
mixxx for instance, it runs on linux/mac/windows, the new 1.6beta version is not stable yet, but will be amazing when fully developed. the 1.5 version (visit
www.mixxx.org) is a fully capable piece of audio software, and it costs nothing.
there are others out there
if you want serato, or just want to play around with the tunes on your computer, try one of these products.

ah cool, couldn't see if there was a thread on that already but thought it deserved a mention
so many people ask me if i know of any cheap/free software and it's all right there, a lot of it is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing too.
do you use any of those regularly kidlogic?
i've been learning how to mix properly and play around with tunes via mixxx for a few months, absolutely love it, the full dev. of version 1.6 is gonna rival the £200 software packages methinks, just needs more stability really.
if nothing else, i find these 'virtual jukebox' programs play mp3s with a higher quality of sound than most native media players anyways

Yeah Serato hates Vista. They never even intended to bring out Vista compatible software but it looks like they bowed under the pressure.
I've got Vista and Serato crashes all the time, proper Blue Screen of Death. It's not healthy.
I've just bought a Mac G4 (as much as I prefer PC) instead to run it and it's sweet as a nut. You're absolutely fine with 1GB ram, I even used to run it on half a gig without any problems.

No worries, I literally just finished posting it when I saw what you said. I was just collecting those for a friend who has to put her decks in storage for a few months...
I havent used Mixxx yet, but it looks interesting. I like that its open source, I might get my roomate working on some modifications once I mess with it a little.
I actually have Serato and Live, so I havent messed with anything else much, but was checking out Serato ITCH yesterday and was thinking it might be nice to have something that doesnt require an external mixer for just messing around with at home or on the go when I dont want to fire up the whole rig... def gonna dig around on some of these and check em.

I've heard that... doesnt sound fun.
Question though, why buy a Mac and not just either downgrade to XP or install OSX on your PC?
But yeah, I even ran Serato on an old ass WIN98 Pentium III with 256mb RAM when I was trying it out. The waveforms took forever to load, but the sound was fine once they did.

the only problems i've found with things like mixxx -
1.headphones - only a few of those programs will happily send a channel to headphones with a single soundcard, usually u'd need a second soundcard or a usb one or something like that, it is not easy trying to configure a pc to work like this (dont kill front sound when u plug headphones in i mean)
2.eq - using only a mouse, it is very hard to eq quickly (duh) im trying to learn all the keyboard keys for the software, kinda long but hey
ps - vista is a hulking great piece of sh*t, do not use it if you want fully functioning software

I just got serato recently....have been using vinyl for 10 years. All I know is 100 dollars = about 9-10 vinyl. 100$ = about 50 digital tunes. WHAT? That is killer. I did immediately notice that the bass response in serato isn't nearly as dope as vinyl though. I switch back and forth between the 2 and there really is a difference if you compare. Kinda sad to think I actually went here, but gotta keep up and save money too. Uh yeah, I run it on a new HP laptop, I took off Vista (which all HP's come standard with now...WTF!!!!, and it was a bitch finding all the drivers and shit to reload XP again.) Now that I got it running, it hasn't glitched, though I haven't played out in a club venue with it yet. All I know is I gotta get there early to set it up.
My friend swears by Mixvibes. He claims the sound quality is superior, works better, and when scratching sounds more realistic to true scratching. Plus it will be Ubuntu compatible. Any thoughts on that?

Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch are sponsored by Serato Live, they use Serato, Vinyl & CD's in their sets. Serato is very good would recommend. Also runs well on the smallest system requirements.
