I am always amazed at the number of people in dubstep who havn't listened to dub. I guess because I listened to it before I got into dubstep it's always been in the back of my mind when I 've been producing, I think I'm always inclined towards that sort of sound. The way the old guys (and new people too, but I won't count them :)) would make their sound so stripped back but full at the same time is amazing.

Tripwire, since you started listening recently, have you recognised techniques that people use in dubstep in the old dub?

I love Dub. I just got the new GTA4 DLC and there's a radio station with two dub tracks on it. Surprised me.

You mean like Rusko?
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Its abslutely nuts you havent heard much dub...! Scientist is the king for me. Galaxy is a good tune. The Scientist big dub showdown at king tubbys is a big lp! You can learn a lot of intersting effects from dub many of which have been rinsed in dubstep.

There was one in San Andreas as well, one of the better radio stations.. it was K-JAH, it was mostly reggae but a couple of good dub tunes, I think king tubby had one in there.

One of the genres I listen to most, have loads of it on my mp3 player when i'm out.. really calming sounds.

Saw Lee Perry live a few weeks back, great great show. The guy's a legend. :lee:
