How to synthesize deep pitch wobble (LIKE RSD & OTHERS)

Post by dubstallion » Tue Sep 07, 2010 5:21 am

I am looking to synthesize this sound : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0URWw2EDiz0

I am half decent at synthesis in my mind it seen like 2 layered square waves with phase and mad pitch bending but I cant come anywhere close to that kind of sound. Can someone point me in the right direction. Alot of RSD tunes have that sounds, also quite similar to stagga in a a way.

Just keep trying different things. It sounds like he's actually using two different basslines throughout, though one of them is definitely a detuned 1 or 2 square wave oscillator, low-passed.

im not 100% on which sound your talking about? the lead riff sounds like a sine patch with some glide on it.

SHUT THE FUCK UP narcissus . You fucking twig.

This sound isnt "RSDs" sounds. EVERY artist has used this sound some point or other. I want to expand my knowledge.

It's good too have the knowledge.. once you know how a professional makes a sound, you can go off of that and create your own. This forum is meant to have people ask questions about production. If he wants to re-create a sound, then so be it. There's no harm.. because in the end, companies are not going to think his sounds are different, and he will not get signed. If you don't know how to make the sound the person is asking for then why post negative comments, or comments saying "MAKE YOUR OWN SOUNDS!" Just because he's curious to know how to create a sound doesn't mean he can't make his own..

surely learnin how to recreate others peoples sounds is a better way to learn sound synthesis, as it forces you to work out exactly how to get certain elements of whatever sound it is. Otherwise you might end up just wildly playing till you get something you like and have learnt nothing about what actually does what. Learning how to make certain sounds is how you get to being able to craft your own sounds exactly the way you really want them.

yeah, and you can get stuck doing the same old thing over and over. Same with learning to play an instrument, when you start learning a lot of other peoples music it forces you into scales and rhythms that wouldnt have come naturally before. You can get good at any art form by just getting stuck in and finding your own path, but to really master them you have to study whats come before, understand how it works and have a good chance of being able to replicate it.

I get why the OP is a little pissed off though, he/she is asking about a technique here, which will inevitabley be altered and sound a bit different because the OP is not RSD.

For instance Futures Untold posted a tutorial up about the difference between hoovers and reeces, and how to make them - no one is getting flamed because they want to make a reece are they? it's a great sound and it's nice to hear what different people do with it.

"just experiment and find your own sound" is not great advice when it is the only advice given. We are all always experimenting, but often there is some knoweledge which you really want or which will give you a real boost. Often being told how you create something illuminates a whole lot of other things.

Yes, Knowledge is power. What is wrong with someone wanting to learn how to re-create every EPIC sound to then make the most EPIC sound every out of every sound :P I want to have knowledge on everything. I have my own sounds I have made on massive, I have plenty. I want to get a sound that is similar to this - but cant come close, someone can point me in the right direction - I wont 100% recreate the sound it will be something different but in the same kind of area.. Sorry if I hurt some of you by making this post.

i think that pitch bending sounds like a midi pattern. 2 main bass patches- first hit sounds like probly sine & saw w/ slight env on pitch and filoter, and the higher one try square & saw with env on filter slightly.

he's just asking about how to make a sound

who care who's style he's jocking, ya'll are just jocking dubstep by hannging around here looking like a bunch of hoes

@ OP: experiment with waveform and texture layering. obviously if you use 1 square osc to make your bass it will be boring. solo each sound at a time as you add it. only add if you like the layer. and you will get closer to where u wanna be
