Thoughts on Vegetarians/vegans

Post by wub » Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:13 am

Yes, there is already a thread on this, but it's a bit on the old side.

Anyone here vegetarian/vegan, or eats meat, and what are your choices/machinations based on?

(If you're one of those funky vegetarians that eats fish (fish being a vegetable, obv) then pick an option you think is suitable.)

I just block out the thoughts of what meat actually is and how its farmed. The thought of being vegetarian scares me, i could name my top 50 meals and i guarantee they all have meat in

Bro, I don't want to derail, but I had an moral question about the consumption of meat, perhaps I could drop it in here? Hehe.

So like in the not to distant future, suppose we can clone meat, just go to your counter top clone-0-matic and get out the day's cultured meat. And it just so happens that the cleanest, most nutritious meat for humans is human meat, but more specifically, meat with your own genetic code. Would it be sinful/cannibalism/bad to eat meat cloned off of your body?

i eat meat - but i buy as consciously as possible. meaning: just local, organic meat from animals that live in an "animal-friendly environment" (they can be outside etc)
we have quite strong labels in switzerland that have to follow quite strict rules to get that label. i don't think, that the EU-standarts are enough strict too - so i go with the swiss law and some specific labels.

also i do not eat on a daily basis meat. no teven on a weekly. i buy once, max. twice a month meat for cooking.

you wouldn't take another persons life
you wouldn't take a baby's live for your enjoyment be ause they are helpless and can't defend themselves.

animals have consciousness, albeit some more advanced than others, but they still have one, so why would you want to kill it for your own enjoyment?

we live in a society where we can survive perfectly fine without killing and hunting and cultivating meat for our own fucking taste buds? its the ultimate definition of wanker.

there is nothing greater or better or any less worthy of living on this planet than anyone else.

the whole evolution argument, or saying its down to the food chain is bull shit because we are more advanced than that.

it's also causing great damage to our environment to get that stake on our plates.

I want to be a vegetarian, but animals are too damn tasty. I try to buy most organic and well treated meat as possible.

I would have no problem with that. If it tastes good eat it. I don't eat battery chickens, not for moral reasons but because free range ones taste better.

Having a steak isn't really comparable to killing a baby.

Though you raise an interesting point...not sure I'd be so quick to eat meat if I had to butcher the animal myself.

Fair enough...I know some vegetarians who eat fish and don't call themselves that, however.

Cooking is an artform. Without meat it loses form. It would be like taking the brushes away from painters.

morally i really do feel that meat is murder

if i wasn't a coeliac then i would be a vege no question, but there's enough food that i can't eat as it is. would be dumb to give myself additional eating restrictions

well it is comparable to killing a cow because who are we to decide who has the right to live on this planet? we are all leaves on a tree.

yes, i eat dairy products tho. i wouldn't be able to be a full vegan

Some people believe plants have as much of a soul as animals.
I've seen scientific studies to prove the fact.

it's not an excuse gwa. it's a compromise.

i eat meat as consciously as possible. i know it's nothing good for our environment. and no good concefrning ethics. but it's still way better. also more important than the label 'organic' is how it's defined and where it's from. that's why i consume only local meat and with other standarts as the EU-standarts (that are a joke)
