Hipsters

Post by _v_ » Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:52 am

For years I regarded those people that changed thier wardrobe on the whims of fashion with disdain.
I thought these people had no character of thier own, like fashion-sheep being sheparded by the fashion industry. that they spent way too much on fashion & were hipocritical in their outlook (what they ridiculed one day would soon be "cool" the next, like undercut-ponytails, moustaches & mullets, yes mullets)

This mentallity at the time didnt have a name or label, they were just followers of fashion, waiting for the next trend to appear so they could spend thier disposable income on more clothes in a never-ending cycle of unfullfillment, trying allways to fill the void with something new & "cool" only for that "cool" thing to soon end up in the charity clothing bin. The vicious cycle continues, like a hampster running on the wheel with no end in sight, only now these people have elevated thier thirst for "the next cool thing" to not only clothing but music and food & probably some other stuff ive "never heard of" :corndance: they have procured the name "Hipsters" and have become known for their elitest attitude to all things "cool"...

Now, are the aforementioned "followers of fashion" the very same people as these "hipsters" or are the "hipsters" a new breed, separate from the fashion sheep?

See, I know people that dress like "hipsters" but they are just normal down to earth dudes, they dont listen to modern neo classical opera from eastern Europe or any of that nonsense, & wouldnt consider themselves hipsters.

But I do know people that dress kinda "cool" & call themselves hipsters like its a badge of honour, & use the word "hipster" like its--- ahem, going out of fashion :6:

So weve got the sheep, the peeps dressing "cool" but not being douches.
Then those that dress "cool" and aspire to be called "hipster" (fuck knows) then theres the actual hipsters (snobby elitist crew)

This is all a bit bemusing...

tbh, personally I think the word "hipster" should be erradicated from all civilisation.

Maybe then I can just go back to having the sheep view.

Disscuss.

add one guy in the middle going "I AM!" and you have /thread

personally, hearing the word makes me want to vomit, as the only thing that usually follows it is avalanches of pointlessness, the word now means absolutely nothing

the term hipster has been around for time though.... well before we used to to discribe the people who ride fixies, wear tight jeans, cardigans & large framed glasses.

EDIT* hahaha yes knell!

surprise, you've just described 80% of twenty-somethings living in America. calling them an ambiguous name is as pointless as calling them "80% of twenty-somethings living in America"

they don't exist. i've been called hipster cuz i listen to zomby. if they did exist, they would be the pretentious pricks that don't stop talking about themselves, wear mochassins in the winter to call on their totem spirits and have bullshit names like Juniper or Space Weed

First time I heard the term 'hipster' was on Seinfeld in like 1994. They called Kramer a hipster several times over the years.

you're right, "snob" isn't the right word for it... "as unique as each other" would be more accurate.

my take: developing schemas for people is a waste of time and energy, people need to learn each others names for a change.

i just see hipsters as a style of dress. i know it when i see it. i for one, am not a hipster, i just don't dress like one. or act like one..neither do any of my friends. i'm not hip in that sense, nor do i find that certain style appealing. i think secretly most twenty somethings want to be hipsters so if they get called out on it they just deny it because admitting to it would be kind of awkward?

it's so weird you know i was dork growing up and i had huge black framed glasses and bangs and people would actually make fun of me! now it's in fashion? wtf?

Can't see Ginsberg in skinny jeans, though.
