Please, I need help planning a dubstep pilgrimage!

Post by jarman » Wed Aug 29, 2007 2:59 pm

I'm working a job that pays well, so I might as well use it to realize some of my dreams!

I want to make a pilgrimage to London, sometime in the future, and would love some input on what locals would say is a good time of year to go, and what other areas/parties i should visit, aside from FWD and DMZ. I have extended family in England, Ireland and Scotland, and will try to visit them, so the entire UK isn't out of the question.

keep in mind, since I'm from vancouver, rain doesn't bother me. And I wold love to see Skream, Digital Mystikz, Benga, Chef, N-type, Peveralist, Burial, etc. basically anyone that would play a dubstep night in england. Various would be great, as would Youngsta, Headhunta, tubby, Loefah and Kode9 (Caught them when they were here, awsome shows, but it'd be wicked to see them in their natural habitat). I'm a sub-bass fiend, so the bigger the soundsystem, the better, but I'd love to see the heart of the scene, so smaller parties are also a must. I will go all out!!!!

This is a plan for the long term (relatively, within a year and a half.). Any and all input will be graciously accepted!

Cheers!

A trip to Bristol is compulsory then!
19th October - Jahtari Presents Tapes EP Launch Party @ Gramaphone, London w/ Tapes, Clause Four & International Observer.
23rd October - Galway, Ireland.
31st October - UFO @ Dojo, Bristol w/ Dema.

Should be easy then mate, i dont even think you have much reason to leave London unless you really want to experience the scene elseware. Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle might be worth a look but i doubt you will know much about whats on untill a few months before hand.

I'd have to recommend a night up in Leeds at the West Indian Centre. Especially Exodus. Massive sound system and a great crowd too.

If you come for a couple weeks around the time of DMZ you should be able to catch various nights. They're becoming very regular so you're bound to see some. Platform 1 @ Corsica to see many DJs who don't get booked for every Dubstep event, quite spectacular! Reach Brighton if theres a Dubpressue on for suuure. Nottingham is having a few Dubstep nights also but I'd defo recommend London, Bristol, Brighton and Leeds! (Talking from experience)

Prehaps i didnt take into account everything Bristol has then, but i still think London will cover most of Dubstep from the UK but obviously Bristol is great and its not far away.

Cheers all! Thanks for the info, it's much appreciated. I'm also going to do a side trip to Amsterdam, cause, well, I simply gotta. Sounds like I'm definitely going to include Bristol and Leeds, and possibly others. I'm thinking a month total. Now to start saving....it's not that much. More 'n halfway there already.

Unfortunately, for the next half year, I'll be half a world away from some of those parties mentioned....:(
