if you get tired of ads.

i use firefox 3 with the addons adblock and filterset.g updater installed. you could try it out. it works pretty good.

the ads are helping fund the costs of the servers, which trust me is not a cheap situation. Dubway's run this forum for years for the most part "ad free" and mostly on his own coin, so this is a way of helping that process. We're at 20,000 and our traffic keeps growing. Something has to give...

have yous ever thought about asking for a small (optional) donation from people? Im sure people wouldn't mind donating 2 or 3 quid a month.

dubway had paid revolving banners for a while, but he's trying this beatport thing out for a bit.

People won't pay to post on a forum. Every forum i've seen thats tried to ask for payment before joining has failed, badly. Its nice to think that a donation system would work, so you may or may not see that happen at some point. :) We'll have to see.

Even if it's optional payment leads to feelings of entitlement, and that don't wash for me.

I must have adblock installed as I see no ads, lol.

look at the resources this place provides, their is never any obligation to donate and no preferential treatment for those that do, simply tryign to take some of the financial burden off the owner.

a pound a month isnt a lot.

thats what all the charities say, still don't get my support. Besides I got no problem with ads, long as they don't take up too much space. If they can take on the financial strain then all good with me, fact I reckon we should all click the link at least once every visit just so they think its worthwhile.

Aye I agree with you mate, but I don't think some other users might be quite as thoughtful as yourself. Might be a good idea though.

hahaha, come on though, youd never see anything for your pound a month to some charity.

All i'm saying is if Dubway turned round and said, right im going to call it day as basically its costing me too much out of my own pocket, you could surley justify donating a pound to keep a constant resource of mixes, information on nights, radio shows and releases.

yeah, possibly, fact might be that it could turn a lot of people away, therefore less server space therefore cheaper to run, could be a good thing too introduce.

still think ad's are a better option tho, at least to start with.

i remember pure grime (infamous bootlegging grime website) introduced a VIP system where you had to pay for exclusive downloads...

that was the start of the end - basically discussion stopped (which i was there for- honest. Also being an admin made me feel good :P) and everyone just used it for downloading and forgot about the forum.

Like wise any payment system on here should not give you any special privileges.. i would donate a few pounds anyway :D

defintely.

I can't see why, if the forum was going to be shut down, people wouldn't donate a pound a month to keep the servers running, and continue to utilise its facilities rather than say, "Im not giving DSF any money" and one day finding your centralised place for all of the above is now gone.
