Focusrite Sapphire LE
Novation nio.

I can heartily recommend both of these for entry level soundcards.
Im looking for experience in writing music for film and TV. If anyone has a project that they would like me to submit for please contact me. I am willing to work for free to gain experience. Examples of work available upon request.

if you aren't really looking to do any recording, then any soundcard aimed at music production will do really

have a look at http://www.dv247.com to get an idea of whats available and prices and read some reviews on the internet

i managed to pick up a native instruments audio kontrol 1 in perfect condition for £140 and the voucher to get a valid ni synth was still valid 8)

another small query, when you have an interface and monitor set up what do you use to control the main volume if you dont have a hardware mixer?

a master volume on the interface, the saffire 6 would be a good choice and good for what you need.

are you using asio4all drivers? cos that can make a shitty soundcard less of a downfal but still the quality that comes out your soundcard to your speakers isn't going to be as good.

I used a Audigy for years - with the creative drivers (not the asio ones) and I could use 5ms, without artifacts and my mixes were fine, I even played out tunes what was just mixed (-6db) and they competed with mastered tunes (With some gain correction)

I only upgraded cause I wacked it in my other computer...

I would only upgrade if you can afford it.

Just get a monitor controller, basically a volume knob.

I like these;

if you don't need any inputs, i'm impressed by the sound quality of the NI DJ series.

yes, a shit soundcard will not sound good-- background noise, masking, etc.
