NEW FORUM ENGINE - REPORT BUGS AND PROBLEMS HERE!

Postby dubway » Thu Sep 17, 2009 5:59 pm

Nemon wrote:Hello all,

The old FORUM was, just VERY old, and alot of issues had to be overcome to move all the data save, so first order of business is that everything works good, and then I am sure layout will be placed.

Another issue was username's - so for example, if your user name was "JoHn" before, now is just "john" (this is not case with everyone, but like 90%).

I could go and explain why, but it was cause of the database compatibility as well, there is difference under linux if you have "A" or "a" - it's different char, while on windows platform that's not the case.

SEO support will be installed tomorrow as well (it will take some time to index all) - so you will have forums posts like this tomorrow-is-new-event.html (usual taken from SUBJECT of new topic).

it's great for search engines.

And also more important, we spent some time today to index everything, so forum should be around 3x times faster then it was before just cause of that alone.

Any tech questions, you can shoot me on PM :)

Thank's everyone for patience

N.

i recommend you to use the default board style Prosilver because its optimized for new forum.
but if you prefer old forum look you can change it to Subsilver2 style.
you can switch between styles in User Control Panel -> Board preferences -> My board style.

The engine is clearly better, but one of the nice things about the old style was it was very clear and easy to read/navigate.

paradigm x wrote:would be much better with the 'subsilver2' skin, the UAD forums recently changed to this format (whatever it is, and that skin is much nicer, v similar to the old format here.

+1 for switching to the 'subsilver2' skin :)

Good stuff! :)

Hello all,

apology for left-right situation, but this is just default layout, untile everything is test out.

I'm glad the forum was updated. I hope that there is the ability to include Youtube vids now... also an ignore feature would be cherry.

Actually, my only issue is with the switch of the layout from name/location/post count... it's all on the right now, which will either take much getting used to, or perhaps can be switched back in the options. That's my only gripe.

Otherwise... FINALLY.

New engine + old skin/lay-out.

Is that at all possible? The old forum was easier on the eyes in general, so it's not just some 'OH LAWD IT'S NEW' kinda issue.
'Scientologist, John Travolta and Tom Cruise Sue The Shit Out Of Trey Parker and Matt Stone'

Still not a girl, though.

I see yall trying to shut down the possibilities of pyramids by limiting quotes to 3 embedded quotes.

also....none of the smilies in the extra smilies window seem to work

i'd really switch the poster info back to the left, its the first time ive seen it on the right anywhere and im guessing it's been done just because it can, or to see if it'd be cool. its not cool imo, pretty annoying.
good effort otherwise!

is it possible to change my username yet?

NOOO!!!!!!

Apart from that, my only gripe is the user info on the right.

Edit: And the color used for quotes is really ugly.

Keep it like this!

One thing though; is it possible to have links open separately in a new tab/window rather than loading on your current page?

I know it's minor but have to ask
