to be honest, i think discussions like this are quite healthy. i'd be more worried if people just sat back and accepted things like this without even questioning....surely that's one of the things that seperates dubstep from all the other bullshit about? maybe i'm just being naive.

tbh i never bring a camera to a rave....shit i dont even own a digi camera, but theres always a mate with a camera and i appreciate that the photos exist so u can look back on them, no matter how battered u look -r-

i think alot of people have read too far into this in this thread (including me :oops:

) but to me it looks like its not really about the fact that u cant bring a camera, but more about the fact that everyone thats deep into dubstep feels very much a part of it and a no camrea policy seems like it creates a lack of that community sort of vibe that u get at dubstep raves.

like a said i dont care for taking pictures myself, but bringing one to dubstep rave certainly doesnt mean that u should piss off to fabric with your glowstick between ur legs.

Surely no cameras would actually develop a more community based spirit?

I mean, it would give a reason for people to turn up, to find out what its really like, generating a "mystique", something that only can be felt in person and not re-created at home through the medium of DVD or photos?

Its a bit like the genre itself in a way, I didnt quite understand dubstep properly until I turned up to a proper rave.

Next time I reckon the organisers should hire a courtroom artist for the action-packed brock-out depictions.

How good would that be!

You know in England it's illegal to take photos in court, but not only that, it's also illegal for court artist to draw during proceedings. They're only allowed to write notes about the people's faces, then they have to run out and draw the sketches from memory during breaks.

P.S. People aren't allowed to take photos at FWD cos of what a German TV crew did with a broadcast sized TV camera with full permission at DMZ (and everyone saying it was a big look) months ago?

i think the no-photo policy seems a bit backasswards but i can fully understand the no-video camera policy.

still, i can imagine that the news team (arte) didn't go unnoticed at that dmz event, but i really enjoyed seeing some high quality footage from dmz. plus the interviews and transition footage was very interesting too.

of course, at your favourite clubnight you don't want to have some bloke with a huge camera and light to run around and maybe bump into you, but that was once and i believe it was excellent promotion for the dubstep vibe and especially for the dmz gang.

This illustrates the point here behind the no-camera policy - FWD/Rinse realise that they don't really need any more promotion. The ban was for the sake of the scene; sort of being cruel to be kind. Prince is doing the same thing at the Dome.

Edit: not that snaps of your friends counts as promotion exactly, but you can't make one rule for those people and another for those who use 'pro' equipment.

this isn't accurate, i merely included the example of the German film crew to illustrate the point.

FWD>> have been trying to avoid film cameras for a bit though, who remembers when Crazy Titch came down with Channel 4 and shone the biggest white, obtrusive light over the Plastic People decks? Totally spoilt the vibe.

was same thing last year, i remember infinite wasnt allowed to take photos but i think its something the end always do not fwd in general (not 100% on that tho)
on other hand glad no-one tok any photos of me on fri, lack of cigarettes makes gives me a wild look in my eyes!!
