Press Materials

Postby misskatiemo » Wed May 10, 2006 3:43 pm

Right, there has been some mention of press materials and other such things in other threads, but I thought that this issue deserved a home of its very own.

I've compiled a short list of things that I consider absolutely neccessary for the marketing/press associated with this label, mostly based off of my own experience and the input i've been able to find in this forum thus far.

Weigh in your opinions and share some knowledge!

Logo (300DPI or higher)
"About Pressing Issues" statement/paragraph
Stickers
Committee member profiles
"About Dubstepforum.com" statement/paragraph
Committee member contact one-sheet

Now, I consider the above the absolutely neccessary has to be done material - as this is a unique label ownership format the opportunity for interviews and other such online/print press is HUGE, especially if the first few releases create some waves within the community.

The stickers are used for plastering cities/handing to dj's/perhaps sending with the first 50 orders of a release per country (??)/other viral-type marketing, making the name a household name and aiding the development of the label image

Committee member profiles and contact info, as well as the two "About" statements/paragraphs are for uniformity and online press, easy uniform info and access for when the promotions/A&R really takes off.

The logo explains itself, as well as any other graphics assoicated with the label. This will be used on flyers, on releases, on press releases, in online press, etc etc etc - this is imho THE most neccessary item on the above list.

Also needed for press is a press/industry contact list, though see the introductions for committee consideration thread for more about that :)

I know that there is more collateral needed, but I figured I'd put a peg in the ground and start with the basics. I've already drafted an "About Pressing Issues Recordings" statement, and will post that up shortly (also working on an introductory press releases introducing the label and the first release)

Input welcomed, encouraged and all that jazz.

btw, here's the draft "about pressing issues recordings" paragraph - i want to edit it but I figured i'd post SOMETHING up for the time being:

"Formed in 2006 from the collective minds of dubstepforum.com members, Pressing Issues is hell-bent on changing the face of dubstep and ringing in a new era of label ownership. Utilizing a unique collective model, Pressing Issues elects and self-regulates committee membership and offers forum members the opportunity to share their opinion and help determine forthcoming releases."

Formed in 2006 from the collective minds of dubstepforum.com members, Pressing Issues is hell-bent on affecting/influencing/other verb of similar meaning here the face of dubstep and ringing in a new era of label ownership. Utilizing a unique collective model, Pressing Issues elects and self-regulates committee membership and offers forum members the opportunity to share their opinion and help determine forthcoming releases.

i'll go have fun on the web and see if i can't reword that to not say changing

i dont like how affecting or influencing sound, but i want a verb that means the same

(btw - i'll go ahead and state in advance that i'm v. picky when it comes to my own writing lol)

how's this?

Formed in 2006 from the collective minds of dubstepforum.com members, Pressing Issues aims to continually push the envelop/challenge the status quo while ringing in a new era of label ownership. Utilizing a unique collective model, Pressing Issues elects and self-regulates committee membership and offers forum members the opportunity to share their opinion and help determine forthcoming releases.

takes care of the word "change" and the entire hell-bent sentence.

better?

"and offers forum members the opportunity to share their opinion and help determine forthcoming releases. "

this one sounds a bit weak.

i don't think we help determine the release. we do determine the release.

also the "opportunity to share their opinion" is a bit wordy.

oh yeh and "nd ringing in a new era of label ownership" could be "introducing a new era of label ownership". more concise

great work though - nice to see people getting on with stuff!

i want a way to indicate that its the forum members and committee members who determine releases, as some people are both. the last sentence doesnt strike my fancy and i'll probably have a hack at rewording it a bit once i get more sleep :)

Damn... I'm never going to sleep again.

I editted a part of your original post so that it looked better in my mind, Katizzle:

as this is a unique label ownership format the opportunity for interviews and other such online/print press is HUGE, especially WHEN the first few releases create some waves within the community.
