Recording as usual

Postby muteqx » Thu Feb 28, 2008 12:08 am

Back on the case and will be ripping over the web tonight - though unfortunately can't really listen to the show again while it's actually on air! (Dammit!)

Anyway, it turns out Streamripper does support AACPlus after all, and it's actually quite a nice format (low bitrate and really decent sound quality), so I'm kinda liking it.

The question is: shall I just repost the ripped AACPlus stream, or transcode it to MP3? I reckon MP3 will be better so people can listen to it on MP3 players, 'cos I dunno how good AACPlus support is on hardware devices.

Will transcode and post the MP3 sometime tomorrow - watch this space people.

Shameless plug: My next tune is almost finished, and I'll be unleashing a preview upon these boards in the next couple of days. It's very different to the last one, and it's not what I hinted at before either (indeed, there's another two in the works and they'll be coming up next).

No worries. :D

I've just got around to setting up a cron job to do the recording completely automated, so now with any luck it will record every week as long as my computer is on. I'll be keeping an eye on it just to make sure though.

Sometimes I do actually need to go out on Wednesday nights... heheh!

Not long to go now. Had to do some format converting stuff (I've never worked with AACPlus files before on Linux) and I'm trying to set this up so it's quicker for me to do in future weeks.

So anyway, chopped 'em together, edited and now encoding, shortly to be uploaded. It'll probably be around an hour from now, as it's in stereo and higher quality than before. :)

It should be easy enough - get VLC (available for all platforms) and give it a try.

Failing that, Winamp is supposed to do it.

VLC is wicked though - no frills Swiss Army Knife kind of software, free (as in "no price", and as in "freedom") too.

Patience people patience! I've been setting up some cool shit! I've made a subdomain for these shows to be archived on, so they'll now be there "forever".

To go with that, there's now a simple no-frills podcast, so you can subscribe to the feed and automatically get each week's show as it appears online:

http://archive.muteqx.com/podcast.xml

Previous weeks shows are in there too, though not ordered by date yet - I'll work on that one sometime.

This weeks' show is here.

92.9MB, stereo, 128kbps ABR MP3.

Enjoy! 8)

Redirected from the old links too, so it's all sweet.

Update: Mix forum thread here.
