Mic'ing a Amp is always a better choice, gives a more natural sound and reverb, DI just sounds tacky and horrible. I bought a high spec (Dell studio) laptop with dell about 3 years ago and its still running perfectly, cant fault it one bit. On the other hand my sister bought a low/mid range laptop (Dell inspiron) and it was the worst piece of shit ive seen in my life, it fell apart completely after about 6 month...

Chances are your mates subs and setup is bass heavy anyway, unless they have treated rooms and matching subs and speakers etc.

Use headphones to hear that frequency, no need to guess anything
