Re: Who uses garage band

I used it for a while in a song writing class, unless they updated it it's very basic. Some simple synths, effects, presets, a small bank of samples and midi patterns, and you can still install au's. Although you don't get buses or sends or much anything in the way of altering signal path. There are...

Re: Key of the song?

https://soundcloud.com/icetickle/lead-example Is this lead out of key, and what key it should be / is anyway? :corntard: Is it even possible for a lead to be out of key? (does it only apply for chords?) Everything is so fucking confusing. :u: To be simple if it sounds right your in key if it is ove...

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...

yeah i agree. i honestly thought 6 would bring what 6.5 and 7 have brought. and im wondering, can the new spectrum eq only be used once per channel? and can you select whether its at the beginning or at the end of the chain? if you can only use it once that kind of sucks because id like to use that...

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...

I feel like what was accomplished between 6, 6.5, and 7 should have all been by addressed with the 6.0 update before. 6 was record intergration and a rack extension beta with echo, alligator, and pulverizer. 6.5 added rack extensiosn(pretty much restricted vst). 7 is midi out, recycle intergration, ...

Re: Key of the song?

In western music pitch is divided in to 12 notes... I'm gonna assume you already know them. (C,C#/Db,D,D#/Eb, ect.) We play different combinations of notes called scales... Scales have starting note or a "root note" This is where the "Key" is derived from. A root note is the base...

Re: Setting Up

I second reaper as a good DAW, it has an unrestricted demo and the student license is $60 bucks or something like that. The plugins are very bare and basic but there are tons of free plugins on the internet. As far as recommendations we have a production bible and tons of info on getting started in ...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

SMOR3S: I would like a little bit more high end to poke through, it doesn't really have as much sparkle to it on that side of the spectruma s I like although I suppose it could be my headphones. The arrangment and flow is nice, maybe a more definitive ending? Good job though pretty solid mix. Djens:...

Re: How Do I Make My Sub Bass Wobble???

Sometimes modulating wet/dry on saturation or distortion on a sub can be cool if don't ming losing power. Modulating to another waveform is kinda cool if your synth has the capabilities but is usually technically just another volume automation. I guess they kinda become less like subs in these cases...

Re: Fun things to do when you're bored of producing.

Having an an lfo automate the sample start on a sampler for a vocal track can be a neat lazy way to find cool little chops. Ooh that sounds fun. What sampler are you using? I've never really gotten into plugin samplers much as I just used my daws sampler but I can't automate the sample start with a...

Re: Fun things to do when you're bored of producing.

Sometimes I set up a sampler and/or drum sequencer with a whole bunch of random shorts samples and feed those to a bunch of sends with %100 wet and fedback delays of varying times. Each delay has a different combination of effects like pitch shift, automated reverb, automated delay ect.... Or other ...

Re: Reason 7

To people not using Reason it looks like it's finally catching up to the rest of the DAW world, but to Reason users this update is HUGE. But really it still feels like catch up in a lot of ways to the tune of $130 bucks. Still will be a good upgrade for the reason users anyways. Happy to finally ge...

Depends what I am going for in terms of atmosphere but when I use self-recorded guitar it always gets two tracks panned hard.
