Re: Sidechain plugs and how to use

If you are really limited you can use manual volume envelope automation to get the same effect. I'd also note, sidechaining is a useful tool, but it's not the only way to get that "pump". Try offsetting the notes of your sub 1/16th from the kick, it gives the kick transient time to hit, an...

Re: Producing without a sub?

The answer is "it depends". I don't have a sub, I have got attuned to the relative weight of sub frequencies from my monitors and they have solid response down to around ~37hz, I also have a very nice set of monitoring earphones that go down to 5hz, so if I want to reference check the seri...

@swishadub & @bassf4ce. The rules are, comment on at least 3 other peoples work before submitting your own. You're not going to get much feedback till you do that.

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)

Instead of trying to have a one-patch-fits-all approach, get your mid-bass register sitting how you want, with all the harmonics you want, then dupe the plugin, with the same patch, and route all of the oscillators through a low-pass filter, et-voila, a sub that will have the same vibe as your highe...

Agreed, this has good potential, feels like it loses a bit of momentum, try working in some gaps and loudness breaks to allow you to re-build momentum.

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)

The overall mix is good. You shouldn't need more than a single oscillator to get the sub you are looking for, use SIN-SQ, depending on the key you are playing your sub in, you might need to detune it -12, -24 semitones. Move the waveform knob all the way to sine. Route through Filter 1 -> Low Pass 4...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@revival : Like the first drop, the vocoded speech is very nice (what plug you using incidentally?). My only real critique, the snare is punchy and everything, but it's lacking some crispness. It could be the overall brickwall limiting killing the top end though. I can see this going off in a hyped...

"Proxima" [Bass/Dubstep]

My latest track, I have a little bit to do on the mixdown and get it properly mastered, but I'd love some feedback. I will reciprocate if you add your track to this thread, or better yet, send it me on SoundCloud on my dropbox.

Soundcloud

Thanks,

Re: How long does it take YOU to finish a track??

~16-20 hours give or take to get the fundamentals down. Then another 10-12 for refinement, alternative arrangements, then 4-8 for mixing. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Some tracks take more, some take less

Re: When you send a track to a friend and ask for feedback..

Honest feedback is the only thing I want. I'd prefer someone to tell me something isn't good, because it gives you impetus to try harder. But take it with a grain of salt, opinions are totally subjective most of the time, unless it's a purely technical and unassailable fact....like, your sub is hitt...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

Good input guys, definitely agree on the loudness break, and for the kick I kept backing it off because it was too stomping, think I overcooked it :P I'll take a look at those suggestions.

Cheers

Hey all, LONG time no DSF, I flipped ISP's and the IP it assigned me was apparently banned for trolling, so I've been hacking around trying to get back in. Anyhows, I've missed this thread! So, without further ado: @gaol1: "NewWIPUpdate" Like the little Peter Hawking samples. Your percussi...

"Zero Point" - Reese workout (not brostep)

Hey all, Long time I've been away from the forum, honing my stuff. Past successes over the past few months, Distance played my track "Transister Generation" on his RinseFM show (you can hear that and download from here http://soundcloud.com/deafblind/transister-generation-feat ), and I've ...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@donpablo : I like this track. The intro section is interesting, and the little clipped piano loop is great, but the change up to the first drop 0:42, you need to bring in the kicks high-passed or volume fade or similar to build tension, when it drops, there's no sub it seems. I am not a fan of the ...
