In cubase 5, do you still have to press F11 to bring up the VSTi rack, then create a midi track and assign the midi track to the VSTi?

That was such a horrible process back in Cubendo 3

nope

as soon as you open a VSTi it asks...

"do you want to create a MIDI track for this instrument?"

great improvement imho

Routing 101, yeah

but when other daw's have an option to auto assign a MIDI track, there is no reason why Cubase / Nuendo shouldn't have that process implemented as well

Even better...there is "instrument tracks" since Cubase 4. Just like in FL on Sonar etc...you don't have to route anything. But sometimes VST'i rack is essential (for Battery 3 and other multitimbral instruments).

yea but it takes all of 5 seconds anyways or next to none if you setup a custom project file to start with already

How so?

In Reaper, one simply double clicks in the empty space on the left of the sequencer window to create a new sequencer track. To use it with a VSTi, simple press the 'fx/insert' button on the new track and select the VSTi you want to add.

To work with multiple outputs, create more tracks and use the routing matrix to rout the outputs to your desired tracks.

what I really found fresh with Reaper after using Cubendo for so long was the fact that there is only one track type, and this track can be used as you wish. If you really wanted to you can use the same track for audio, a VSTi and as an FX buss all at the same time!

FTW

I think DH was right really, if you use cubase regularly you know it, of not you give up and use something else.

Macc's (yet again  :6: ) groups tutorial was very useful, and well worth a read

http://subvertcentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12000

And his automation tutorial popped up while searching too. read them both a while back, very useful as always :4:

Gotta be said, mans got a way of explaining things in a funny and interesting way.
