I use UAD plugins with Logic, and it really shows how Logic's delay compensation is a total joke. Like, not professional in any way. When you try to add in external midi instruments to a tune that uses buses with plugs on them you get crazy, unresolvable delay issues.

I switched from Cubase for Mac to Logic and while I'm mostly glad I did, I do really miss the seamless way Cubase handled delay comp.

are you upto date with logic? In version 9.1 or something they fixed a few problems like what your describing..

has this fixed the latency issues with vintage warmer l.e and vintage warmer 2? i keep my studio g5 offline so i don't clutter it with non music related shit. but if the update from 9 to 9.1 is really worth it then i'll do it.

EDIT: one final question. does it fix this problem i have currently with the bounce and bounce in place functions. i always bounce stuff with gaps before and after to make sure i get all of the audio i want (including the effect tail for example). i get this weird white noise and various other clips/pops happening in the bounced audio file...not at the part where the actual music is but before it comes into the audio file and after it's finished.

G5's can't upgrade Logic past 9.01 (I think it is) at any rate they can't run 9.1 so you're better off staying as you are or upgrading to intel

I have some questions, but they might be too broad or too "it's personal preference". I guess the main things to state are that I use Logic Pro 8.0.2 on both a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (on indefinite loan from work and the main production computer) and on a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook (mainly my Serato laptop, but I play around with Logic on it at work sometimes), and I have an Axiom 25 controller hooked up to the G5. My workflow is not the greatest, and the past few weeks I have been trying to organize my sample library better, as well as trying to understand Logic's tools better.

My current Logic workflow project is trying to take advantage of the Axiom 25. I have watched a few tutorials about Controller set-up, and I actually have a basic Zone (defaults to No Zone) that uses the transport buttons, and then I have a zone named for the Axiom that has three Modes set up so far, the default (and always "on") No Mode, and then modes for the ES1 and EXS24. My questions here are about suggest practice here.

• Do I create Modes for all of the software instruments that I might use at some point?
• Do I create Modes for any effects plug-ins?
• Suggested buttons on the Axiom to use to cycle through the different Modes? Right now I have it set that you have to hit the Zone/Group button under the display, and then the FFWD/RWND buttons cycle through the ES1 and EXS24 modes.
• Suggested parameters to make control assignments for? Right now the EXS24 controls the eight knobs: Filter Cutoff/Resonance/Drive and then Env2 Att. via Vel and then Env2 (Amp) ASDR values. Then the ES1 has the knobs controlling: Cutoff/Reso and ASDR. Should I assign any other parameters for those two? What should I set up for the other instruments? Should I set the knobs to do anything on the mixer?
• Do I use the drum pads on the Axiom for anything other than drums? Can I even do that?

Hey does anyone know how to get sort of "yoig" type wobble out of logic, like in PlanB's She Said (16 bit remix)? I've been messing around with different distortions and the LFO's and whatnot but i just can't get it right and bear with me because I'm pretty new to logic so forgive me if I sound stupid at all.

if ur not able to get such a sound in logic, ur prolly unable to get it in any daw. this question has been covered numerous times on this forum, it even became a sticky. read the stickies -a couple times- before even posting something else... there is incredibly useful informations on those...

u could read posts on this forum for at least a month without having to post anything if u look hard enough

ive got pretty decent at producing such sounds thanks to those stickies and threads and yes u can do it in logic.

i've got a tip. it might come in handy or help you out with a problem you have or are going to have. it might be the problem fixed in logic9 depone reffered to a couple posts earlyer.

when u use samples (any sample type) with delays, sometimes there's a weird thing happening. lets say you put an echo on a 1 sec sample (like a vocal or something) and you set a long echo time to it . logic suddenly cuts out the delay after a second and as if the track un-mutes it comes back 2 seconds later. Ive been fucking around with this thing for months trying to solve it by bouncing the echo's or just using multiple samples with a volume slope. until i figured the logic-telephone helpdesk might be able to solve it. indeed they did.
They told me that this is a bug thats been a problem since logic 6.
To save ram, logic will sometimes (when ur using alot of samples) stop the playback of audio of a track in the secuencer when there is not an actual audio file present. (in my case cus there's only a one sec sample there) they told me to bounce a empty audio file (a clear empty wave to be exact) and place that in the track after the one sec sample to trick the playback engine into believing there's audio to be played. i tried it and it works.
I usually cut alot of funkbreaks directly into the secuencer (not using drumsynths or ultrabeat etc) so i often have that audio sample overdose (alhough 4igigz of ram should make for enough power) the helpdesk told me that ram is not the issue. its juts logic being overefficient. kinda funny really.

haha yeh i found out about that issue back in 8 when i was about 17 my mates dad filled me in not a big issue and does not happen every time it is just a bother sometime when you bounce down to master and wander why certan vox delays are being cut off lol .

does anyone uses logic with the mpc3000... apparently they don't get along very well and have really crippling sampling issues...

also, what, in ur opinion would be the best first thing to customize in the environmental for an environment noob?

This is a real long shot, but I don't suppose if anybody knows whether there is a way I can select all midi or audio segments that are underneath other ones on the arrange page?!

I'm constantly finding that I've accidentally wedged something somewhere it shouldn't have been and don't notice because there's another 'block' on top of it...

Would be super helpful if anybody knew if there was a way to find hidden things without having to go through and move everything out of place to check there's nothing underneath...

^ i personally glue everything together as soon as i find something overlaps with something else... and i dont see the point in not doing that...

if u want to keep the smaller piece then have a part with the smaller piece, a part with the bigger (that hides theother one), and one with both GLUED together.. that way u know exactly what ur doing.. as soon as i have all those hidden bits.. i end up losing my way around the arranger...

only reason id do that is if im at the very end of the arranging process and i want to put some incidentals at some spots

The issue here is that I don't always find stuff that overlaps, and I'm not talking about stuff I've recorded over the top of something else (I will glue that automatically), I'm talking about stuff that isn't supposed to be there at all so glueing it would make it even more hidden than just hidden underneath and completely fuck me over!

I've found something similar to what I'm looking for under the 'regions' tab called 'delete overlaps' or something, which is kinda handy. It would be much better for me if I had 'select overlaps' instead of delete so that I could go through with my shift key and only delete the things that aren't supposed to be there

I'm having this problem when I am trying to export a region as an audio file to resample it everytime I do so with logic I get this clicking metronome style popping noise either in the beginning of the clip or at the end it is really annoying this does not happen in reason 4 or any other DAW i have. I have watched the whole Logic Essential Training dvd and I don't remember it talking about this at all. does anyone know how to get rid of it?

make sure your samples are cut at zero crossings.

ahaha cause most people will tell u its always better to know one daw inside and out before u move to the next one...

plus they touch on that subject in the manual if i can recall it...

i would basically insert a fade out by the end.. or edit the samples from the sample editing window and have the ''snap to zero crossing'' function on..

try the macprovideo logic series.. its the best ones ive watched so far.. try them.

You didn't mention Logic, if you don't have it you're in the wrong thread pal... If you do have Logic here are my suggestions -

He didn't actually say that he was editing audio to be fair, (although he could have been, but it's best to be open minded ), he could be trying to bounce MIDI to audio...

Anyway, if it is MIDI regions and not to do with audio zero cross points, I question whether you've looped the region you're trying to bounce before bouncing? Logic doesn't like to bounce things without having a bit of breath before the region starts... For example when I do my realtime final bounce on tracks: I loop the entire track's regions, then instead of starting the loop at bar 1 I start it at bar 0 and a half (0.3111 or whatever it is), then bounce and it gives it a moment to 'think' before jumping straight into the bounce. So I suggest you give this a try with your singular regions (Obviously give time for your delay tales to come to a complete end too, cutting these off could produce a click at the end).

If you're using Logic 9, have you tried out the 'bounce in place' function? This could be helpful and I've never had problems with clicks with it as of yet... It's reasonably powerful with options such as 'leave delay tail in audio' as well as 'leave delay tail in region' etc.
