What if Dubstepforum changed it's name?

Post by boxxy » Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:38 am

something i've been pondering for some time now

what if this was a site for all forms of bass music?

dubstep, grime, future garage, UKG, funky, dubbage, house, dub, wonky, hip hop, juke, b-more, breaks, jungle, etc...

most of us love all of it

i know we have sub forums, but it's like old school raves: different rooms for diffrent sounds

sometimes it seems that this board would be a lot more exciting if it mirrored what is going on in the clubs at the moment, a blurring of the lines, a joining of sounds

would it be too messy?

would it disrespect the vibe?

most of the og's have gone
most of the mods don't even post on here anymore
is it time for a change?

what do you think?

dubway? seckle? fellow forumites?

with over 30,000 members, any radical changes would be difficult at this point. the reason this forum has grown to the extent it has, alongside the growth of the music worldwide, is that in the early days we decided to keep it tightly bpm orientated...ie in and around 140. that way lots of different sounds and textures could develop as they have very naturally. this is why you see so much talk about sub genres....an ongoing debate for nearly 5 years straight.

every website has an expiration date though. that point when the nostalgia overtakes the initiative. its a tricky time. its that "remember when..." time. sort of like reading a favorite book over ten years of your life. the book changes as you do....

@Hackman: dubbage is just house in the same way that funky is just house and dubstep is just future garage... I mean, most funky sounds like early 90's US house, and that's the truth

@ grooki: most of us, obvi not you

@ mash: yes, I know. What I am speaking of is one place for all of it...

As usual, only seckle chats sense. I see what you're saying. Thanks for actually taking the time to respond, instead of just making a one sentence, back-handed comment

We only started saying Dubbage because we felt the type of House we played was different from the other new rising stars of the scene. Now everyone has just started calling that style Dubbage and is referring to it as a new scene, or a new thing but it ain’t. It’s just a name we call it to separate us from the funky scene.
