pages loading slow, or hanging on loading

some people are reporting pages load slow or hang on load. a few of these complaints are from people using the forum on mac safari. generally safari and flash players are like oil and water. there's a corporate war going on between adobe and apple over flash, so I suggest not using Safari brower until its over. On this forum we allow videos and souncloud content to be posted. both use flash code. Firefox, opera, and others work much better with flash content, than Safari currently does

normally soundclouds in sigs are the main culprit. if you happen to hit a page full of soundclouds in people's sigs, on most dsl connections, there can be lag, because by the design of soundcloud's player, a page of them will load one by one, in order. when soundcloud's server are seeing heavy traffic (quite often these days) this pre-loading slows down globally on this site. also, there can be times when the DSF banners above lag, but thats only rarely.

if speed is a big problem for your experience on this site and /or you're using cellular bandwidth limits, I suggest you change your preferences in the user control panel at the top of this screen while you are signed into the forum. from user control panel click "board preferences" then click "display options". turn off avatars, and turn off sigs. click submit. this should solve your delays completely.
