How To Get Signed
How To Get Signed
I feel like this has been discussed before...but I can't find anything on a search, so if it has feel free to lock this one.
I'm not going to be so pretentious as to even THINK that any of my tunes could be signed. The fact that I'm even thinking of thinking about it is a bit much for me.
However, I hope one day my tracks may be decent. So I'd like to retain some knowledge about tips and tricks for getting signed.
Obviously "make good tracks." but there's more to it than that, I think.
So what do labels look for/what should one do to further their chances of getting signed?

Although there are some complete dickhead big name producers and signed artists.
Re: How To Get Signed
No doubt, but dickheads are everywhere

The 'sending dubs' thread is a good start http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=186232
No big secret otherwise, its not like pop music where you need someone like simon cowell and the x factor and being mates with max clifford to get signed and popular (not yet anyway, although I can think of at least one person that did something along those lines).
One thing I think people forget now though is that it isn't all about the internet, meeting people and talking/handing them CDs is a lot better than sending an email with a download link.

Re: How To Get Signed
Get socialising and networking with others in the industry and just be a generally nice guy. Gotta make sure your tunes are up to scratch first though.

Re: How To Get Signed
networking is key mate, people are more likely to chat to you in person that on this internet, go to nights that have djs playing on the labels you like and get your tunes to those guys.
Re: How To Get Signed
Like people said, Networking, and generally chatting to people without really even talking about music. If you music is sick but your a dickhead, no one will really wanna know. Defo don't go for the first label that offers, there's no need to sign your name for the sake of it, just wait until you think you are properly ready

hahah that seems like the strategy en ce moment, but that'd be so unsatisfying. Plus I don't know how to use Fruity Loops

What next?

Re: How To Get Signed
Easy mate. I know I'm not really anyone to talk, please feel free to ignore this, but let me give you some honest advice from what I've learned so far.
Don't go with the first label you get an offer from, unless you really feel it's the right move for you. I would 100% suggest not releasing digital-only, EVER. Vinyl marks a quality label, And shows that they believe in your music enough to invest not only their time but their hard earned money into your music. Also, A lot of the time, when your music ready, labels will approach you. Lastly, the 'Sending Dubs' topic, READ IT 10 TIMES.
Then 10 more times.
Hope that helps. Respect, Compa.
