Hey, i'm starting this thread because i've noticed a lot of threads going on here, that are claimed to be "official."
In my opinion they're just a bunch of idiots fighting over which way is best and what to use, blah blah blah.
I created this thread for the intent that FM8 is the only plugin to be used (initally, but further resampling may be used.)
Also, since a lot of people out there don't know frequency modulation, here is where we share with each other, not only do we share our information, but we share how to use it to our advantage.
As you're reading this, you might be a Sytrus user. Sytrus is great, but if you want to learn about it, don't post here. Go to SeamlessR's channel, and you'll find yourself waist deep in loads of Sytrus. FM8 is different from Sytrus, they both have their strong points.
FM8 is very unique, and a lot of people think it sucks, but in fact, it is extremely powerful and i have made some monster growls with it, so lets gather everyone interested in growls, pick up a copy of FM8 if you don't have it, and lets figure some stuff out!
Might be thinking this has to do with a bit of me lol^
But I think it's a good idea, no one really goes in-depth with explaining the synthesis and theory behind fm. There's some good basics I've read and some tuts I'll post when I get off my lazy ass and start up my laptop. Long day at school... Plopped in my bed and I'm basically sunk in

Yeah i skipped work today xD
See the thing about tutorials is, they're usually so generic, and its like a straight point from start to finish. They tell you what to do, not what to do to understand how to do what they're doing and why.
The reason i think that he started this post is because FM is a giant rage fest of people arguing over what is right and wrong when in fact they don't even KNOW what FM does. They just know what the tutorial told them to do. Right?
We should also learn how to do FM ourselves, so that we can pull up a blank patch and get to work without video aid.
Right???
TURN THIS KNOB. TURN THIS KNOB. SLIDE THIS THINGY. PUT THIS NUMBER AT EXACTLY 32 FOR NO REASON. NOW TURN THIS. AND DONE.
Like... what... how is this supposed to help me unless i want to use the same sound every damn song? Can nobody tell me why the sound being made and why the knob i'm turning is having this effect?
PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND.
Didn't want to post the video because it would have been the longest post on DSF!
Ok thats a shit load of tutorials for you guys to help anyone get started and on track. THESE VIDEOS ARE FOR HELPING YOU!
Number one thing here is to make your own sound and use different technics. Ill make another post about some that i do with fm8 and modulating stuff.
This should be an imense start for anyone making growls and expecialy in fm8
Support the youtubers, if you have a channel. They took time to make the videos, and not be lazy and lerk forums and share handful information to a select few.
All the information is out there in some way or another.
Last note and im done! Lets try do something a bit different with out growls mates? Not just make deep ass eq points and throw on a wow filter.
Heres a link to my soundcloud for some of my sounds, if you want to know any of them or just tell me that i make shitty growls or beats go ahead!

Check out this shit i just did in fm8! The link is private so click on it
This is just FM8 here. Soundcloud
This is with effects added after the final FM8 Soundcloud
DUDE this is awesome! Did anyone else take a listen to this/ Sounds way dope, how did you get it so vowely without taking away the original grit of it? :O

Much appreciated man im a pretty humble person but thanks. Had a pretty boring day off school and teachers and what not. Made my day aha
We all really appreciate what you did, and it helped us learn some stuff, but this thread is going to die if we don't start USING the stuff.
I'm not trying to take your thunder away, but check out WolfCry's sounds, let the feedback start (even though we all know he takes it anally )
He was the first to post sounds, I listened i thought they were great. Lets get this going, post a sound you made, critique his. Blah blah blah. Maybe he'll spill his secrets.

I really like the pre effect growl. Your modulation is perfect imo man, i'd love to learn how to get that modulation.
I'm a Sytrus user, and in what way if FM8 better than Sytrus?
There is in no way sytrus or fm8 is better than one and another. Its just the industry standard for fm stuff such massive, sylenth, and nexus are. Everyone has it and it is truly a banger synth.
The same principles can be exactly supplied to sytrus.
-Side note, thats sick stuff man very clear yuh sound. I dont have any growls at the moment but ill just repost and old skrillexy growl that i got from one of the tuts that i posted^
Has that nice real talking to like the old chap does. Nothing complicated.
Will also see the videos on the Kill the noise growl and post my interpretation of it

He beat me to it, there is no "better" program. There is simply programs that have different strong points. Sytrus is awesome, but its more of a "zomboy" white noise, feedback and phasing, sourced engine. Whereas FM8 is more of a vowel inducing engine, and has more modulation spread.
Sytrus is very smooth and using it grants a gnarly, consistent sound because it seems to have 0 to 100% modulation features.
FM8 Has like 0-10 % modulation feature. Which means instead of slowly going down and up with the mouse, it skips by increments of 10 ( i don't really know the exact number.)
So this gives the sound a really gritty, ear blistering feel. Its not smooth at all and getting smooth growls isn't so easy, but it makes for really powerful "stuttery" growls, or really crunchy sounds.
The first sound in the drop, sounds sorta like a lion, its really crunchy and beastly. (Check 1:29)
This is FM8's main demonstration of sound.
This one starts at 1:50 and continues on further into the song. Its the same concept, using i'm assuming, the same engine. Which is FM8.
The rest of Zomboys stuff can easily be created with massive, FM8, or sytrus, but im assuming it is sytrus.
It has that tone to it.
The way i got my modulation is by feedback and internal wave shapes with the program.
Its going to be a huge long post, so if you appreciate this one, let me know.
Then i'll post about how i got my modulation and vowel timbres so accented. Because it will be long and complicated, and i don't want to do it for nothing. Let me know guys.
Here is my attempt at it. Soundcloud
This was all made in FM8, the second growl, the weirder one was EQ'ed externally thats why its sounding so weirdish... Its private so click the link, but i think i've proven my point at the power of FM8 by these basses, and how they releate to the basses i pounted out in the video.
