anyone game on their mbp?
im looking at buying the high end 15" mbp 2.4 i7 quad core, 8gb of RAM, AMD 6670 GPU 1gb VRAM, etc.
do you guys think this will be good for gaming?
really i only plan on playing diablo 3. i used to be a diablo 2 player and now that d3 is coming out in march i absolutely have to play it. let me know what you guys think for those of you who may have some more experience with gaming on macs.

Re: anyone game on there mbp?
Sorry if this turns out to be completely useless to you with its lack of Apple.
But I'm on PC, running a slightly better (2gb) video card, half the ram and a dual core 3.2, and I can run every recent game I've tried to at close to, if not maximum settings.
I may be completely miscomparing Mac to PC (and laptop to desktop for that matter) But on specs alone you shouldn't have any trouble with any game, bar the video card. And even that isn't going to cripple.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
the only issue is come upgrade time
that is my biggest gripe with mac aside from the price
why buy a machine that will just age and become worthless
at least pc users can upgrade over and over

Nah gaming on mac is pretty redundant, especially on mbp, you are better buying a gaming laptop or better yet building a gaming desktop PC. Just the fact they are incompatible with most things required for tweaking and tuning for perfect gaming performance.

Only can afford one laptop and its going to be another macbook. Its for production, school, gaming, and whatever else and i just cant stand windows. Really im just wondering if that gfx card will be able to last me a few years. Probly will only play diablo 3 as i dont really game on my computer.

It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
If you mostly want it for gaming +1 on the PC. I have a brand new iMac i7 quad core, with 2 GB video card, 4 GB RAM and it still crashes when playing civ 5 because the developer couldn't make a half decent Mac port.... Costed a pretty penny more that he PC equivalent too...Pedro Sánchez wrote:Nah gaming on mac is pretty redundant, especially on mbp, you are better buying a gaming laptop or better yet building a gaming desktop PC. Re: anyone game on their mbp?
Blizzard seem to the only company around that give a toss about half decent gaming on a Mac.
That said, Pedro hit the nail on the head.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
yeah i noticed that. i know people that play WoW on their macbooks with no issues at all. i know its not the most resource intensive game out there, but neither is diablo 3. and like i said before i dont really game on the computer, so the only game that will be played is diablo 3. that being said do you guys think i will be fine with the top of the line 15" mbp? like i said i dont have the money to have 2 separate computers and ideally i would like to stay with mac.Shum wrote:Blizzard seem to the only company around that give a toss about half decent gaming on a Mac.That said, Pedro hit the nail on the head.
once i graduate from college and stuff i plan on building a desktop which i can run windows and mac on, so i will be able to just update it piece by piece as i chose instead of having to buy a new computer every few years. and then i will probably have a mbp as well. but for now a new mbp is all i can afford, and i need the portability for school and such.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
My advice (since you seem settled on having a MBP and playing Diablo III on it) would be to wait it out until the game is released and then purchase a new MBP then. If you are set on getting a 15" MBP now then I would buy the one with the 1gb graphics card.Eat Bass wrote:yeah i noticed that. i know people that play WoW on their macbooks with no issues at all. i know its not the most resource intensive game out there, but neither is diablo 3. and like i said before i dont really game on the computer, so the only game that will be played is diablo 3. that being said do you guys think i will be fine with the top of the line 15" mbp? like i said i dont have the money to have 2 separate computers and ideally i would like to stay with mac.Shum wrote:Blizzard seem to the only company around that give a toss about half decent gaming on a Mac.That said, Pedro hit the nail on the head.

I take it thats us dollars?

For the same price as that macbook you can get a pretty decent gaming pc AND a laptop for your school work/production. just install lion on the laptop if you don't like windows.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
thats what i was thinking. only thing is the next mbp that is supposed to come out is supposedly going to be a complete redesign with air like features and no optical drive. personally, i still want an optical drive until a few more years when they really become obsolete and all the software goes to digital downloads.Shum wrote:My advice (since you seem settled on having a MBP and playing Diablo III on it) would be to wait it out until the game is released and then purchase a new MBP then. so i guess ill either have to buy the mbp that just got updated at around christmas time. or try to hold off like you said until the new one comes out, if it comes out in march when d3 comes out.
and yes dubfreak thats USD. but the problem is i have no room for a desktop right now and its not worth getting one while im at school. and i want a fast maschine for production as my current macbook is starting to get eaten up by massive fx chains and my inability to implement resampling into my workflow.

Re: anyone game on their mbp?
id rather build a monster laptop with windows and mac installed on it. because like i said its pointless for me to get a desktop until im out of college and have a place i stay in year round.Dub_freak wrote:1,755.32 USD and yes i think so.
but i dont know of any sick laptop cases that have a trackpad like a mac and thats slim and sleek. can anybody help me out with that? if i can find a dope laptop case and parts that will allow for hackintosh i would consider that.
Re: anyone game on their mbp?
bump anyone know a site where i can essentially build my own laptop? only way ill consider building my own hackintosh/windows laptop is if i can find a housing that suits my needs. mainly a very nice screen, a nice trackpad like apple, and a battery that will last a long time like apples.
