Dubstep is a buzzword for mainstream club promoters

Post by oli90 » Tue Aug 10, 2010 2:05 pm

You see it on so many flyers for waste nightclubs and generic nights. Stuff like "from Rock Indie Dubstep and Dance"
Why distinguish Dubstep from any other genre of dance music they may play?

Because it's an idiot-friendly term. Dance means anything 4 to the floor. Dubstep means BAAAAAwubwubwubwubBBBABABAA-wickywicky- WUBWUBWUBWUB.

you guys would love it in the US, where dubstep is still relatively untouched by the mainstream dick.

i know club owners who think like this. the club we are dealing with at the moment is run by a middle aged miserable tnuc who has no concept of how to promote, run a nightclub or create an atmosphere.

Mainstream dubstep has caught on so hard where I'm at, that I wish I could say the same. Electro is huge here, and once the kids hear a Rusko song in a set they think they're in love with dubstep.
Look at the "dubstep" tracks on our big electro promoters blog. http://www.omfgonline.ca/search/label/omfgbeats

This is their thought process (at least here anyways): Dubstep is big right now, who cares who shows up as long as it makes me money?

The most annoying thing about ten penny producers is, as soon as you identify one, the same one keeps fucking popping up everywhere.

Anyone who is male and drinks Sourz should be dragged out into the street and shot for the wasting oxygen by being alive.

its true, before i moved to LA, i could never find a decent dubstep show, the best i could get was Bassnectar at some festivals

and in LA, theres more of a scene for the bassheavy deep stuff than the filth (aside from the Rusko fan hopperz)

Lots of people assume "Dance" has to have a 4 to the floor beat.

Lots of people are fuckin' retards.

far from the truth

I don't know about the rest of the country, but its horrible here in Orange County

just now I was on FaceBook and some 15 year old bitch posts "dubbbbssttteepppp<33333333". unfortunately I know for a fact that the only "dubstep" around here is Caspa, Rusko, Datsik, Borgore, and Excision. the large majority of kids my age, especially guys (obviously), definitely do know of dubstep

and they're touching it with their mainstream dicks

a lot

every fucking party i go to has datsik and excision tunes being played right next to that top 40 bullshit.

pretty much every conversation about the fact that i produce music, or even talking about music in general, goes like this:
"Oh yeah, what kind of music"
"Well, lot's of different stuff... ambient, drum and bass, IDM, dubste-"
"OH YEAH MAN DUBSTEP RUSKO EXCISION WUB WUB WUB WUB WHOMP WHOMP GUESS I GOT MY SWAGGA BACK I FUCKING LOVE DUB"

a few months ago i would at least attempt to educate them on the likes of Mala, Coki, kode9, skream, toasty, reso, zomby, ramadanman, loefah, distance, etc, etc, but they all look at me like some kind of freak for listening to this "weird ass shit" as one person put it.

sounds like you just need to stop chilling with 15-year-olds...
for real though, what's the big deal if Rusko gets mainstream popularity, or if kids like artists that you think are shit but happen to fall under the same name? it's fucking fun dance music. it doesn't take anything away from the "real" artists or parties. going back to the OP, i don't see lots of "DUBSTEP" ads going on around NYC like that's supposed to draw people in. maybe in LA or the O.C. (don't call it that) but it's not a national issue like all the UK members always seem to complain about.
