It's hot bro.alphacat wrote:My sympathies...nowaysj wrote:In LA for this one...
Sick! Can't wait for this.Staley wrote:I played on last weeks lineup (Bigup Truth for the invite!) Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the sound-system at Monarch is atrocious. Sure it's a Void and all, but there is no weight that can be felt at all. The DJ booth is a bass-pocket though, which makes it hard to mix, and also means you think your tunes are having an impact on the crowd, but once you step out, you realize not a single frequency can be felt in the chest, it's all in the head. I thought that club was going to be a mecca for bass music in SF, and instead it's just another lost opportunity. Now maybe if they got some actual stacks of subs on the floor, instead of just relying on the horn-loaded speakers hanging around the 4 corners of the room, then it could be a proper venue for bass music, but until then Club Mighty is the only thing that comes close to proper bass in the city (and any semi-decent rig will blow it out of the water)
But don't worry Bay Area heads. My system is getting built as we speak (think lots of JBL dual 18s, ala Gritsy's 'Wall of Bass') I'll be running my own bass night (foundation sounds, so reggae, dub, dubstep, jungle, garage, grime) and renting out my system to any promoters in need (pretty much all of them).

You know, I'm definitely not as much of a perfectionist as regards this stuff as other cats here (Phigure, I look in your direction...knell wrote:for 0-5$, it's essentially a place to vibe out with friends on a Tuesday... looking forward to seeing Truth either way.

yeah, i haven't even heard it yet so i can't comment on the sound system. i just think that this kind of night is exactly why i like the Bay Area. it's a lineup that i'm interested in, it's cheap, and it's close / convenient. LA has shows but they're always so far away (and you have to drive)alphacat wrote:You know, I'm definitely not as much of a perfectionist as regards this stuff as other cats here (Phigure, I look in your direction...knell wrote:for 0-5$, it's essentially a place to vibe out with friends on a Tuesday... looking forward to seeing Truth either way.) but...
...Honestly?!
The last such night I caught (Truth's 1st or 2nd installation of this) sounded JUST FUCKIN' FINE to me. That's DJ M3's rig though, talk to him if you have any concerns.
I've heard notably worse sound systems in clubs charging 4-6 times as much cover too FWIW, so anyone thinking they're not gonna make it 'cuz they think it'll sound like a boombox in a bathroom, well... think again. It sounds more than fine for most of us punters. It's not 1015 or Mighty, but then again... as far as everything but the sound system goes that's a good thing.
Oh, and Knell and I will be there to 'entertain' (heh heh) the ladies dem, so uh... bring yer ladies.
I'm not that picky am I? As long as I can feel something in my chest I'm goodalphacat wrote:You know, I'm definitely not as much of a perfectionist as regards this stuff as other cats here (Phigure, I look in your direction...)
