Lucid dreams

Right, I watched waking life for the first time since philosophy where i was too battered or sleeping to know what was going on and it blew me away full stop. The stuff about lucid dreaming though was so intriguing, and ive had a little look around for books and stuff. Definitely going to get involved, but was wondering if anyone has any experiences with it or tips or anything? I have no idea why i didnt know about this before! its madness...

Apparently it helps you get into it a bit quicker when you're not quite used to it... after a while you can do without it, so they say.

My mate at work is always banging on about lucid dreams.

You need to confirm that you're in a dream before you have any control over what happens in it. For example, my mate always checks his watch, and it'll either be spinning round like mad, or will be frozen. Once he's confirmed that then the lucid dreaming can begin.

I don't really understand how the fuck it works though.

i reccomend this:

also, like kins said, keep doing reality/awareness checks throughout the day.

like just go about your normal day but throughout the day,stop for a second and become aware of your own awareness/ percieve yourself percieving.

you can check things like watches, your hands etc to get into the habbit but its the actual process that will spark it. you'll only become lucid in your dreams when you can regularly be lucid in your 'waking life'.

after a while of checking, and generally just having it on your mind enough for it to make an impact on your subconcious, you'll start to notice when your dreaming. might be after a few days, a few weeks or a few months--all down to how prevailent it is in your mind.

hard thing is staying lucid when you become lucid, for like the first 3 or 4 times (have probably had about 15 in total in the last year ) i managed, it only really lasted about 10 seconds before my focus faded and it ended.

sounds obvious but most of the time we go about the day in our mind and we're not really 'here'. lucidity's about being fully aware of your presence and remaining in that presence both in your dreams and in your waking life.

but yeah, id definately reccomend it. either for exploring your levels of conciousness or just doing 'cool' stuff like flying :D

Seems really clearly explained. Only really read the introduction a couple of times but is so interesting. Actually spoke to a guy I do management shifts at clinic with today and hes been practicing lucid dreaming for a long time, been talking to him about it and its well helpful...sounds MAD too!

I saw a documentary about DMT and had some stuff about lucid dreaming, this guysaid for a whole day whenever u go through a door stop and ask yourself if your dreaming and then apparently if you go through a door in your dream you will do it and the lucid dream begins....weird stuff.

nah yeah im pretty sure youve got to stop smoking (weed). Believe it (and alcohol...probably other things too) stops/inhibits you entering REM sleep which is what yer after. I always find I just dont dream if ive been smoking, love it when you give up for a while and after a couple of weeks start getting the most vivid memorable dreams...kind of forget about dreaming when you smoke. Bit sad really, definitely something that would make me want to stop. Not going to be smoking over exams anyway though, so going to be a good chance...if it really does get interesting will probably stop smoking i guess! Regularly anyway.

Guy I met actually tried a strict organic vegan diet for a while and it apparently did really increase the vividness/lucidity of them. Possibly going a bit far for me though...dont half enjoy a steak

I've been lucid dreaming quite a few times, although not regularly, I've found out some ways to do it. My tips;

1) first off, start keeping a track off your dreams, write them down as soon as you wake up, your regular dreams, that is. smoking weed and drinking heavily might make it harder for you to remember your dreams, so yeah, keep that in mind too. write your dreams in a dream journal, and go over them regularly.
2) try writing a word on your hand, like "foot", or something short, and make it a habit to always look at your hand during the day. if you keep on doing it every 15 minutes or every 30 minutes or so, your brain will start doing the same in your sleep too, but then, the word will have changed to something completely different, and if you pick up on this, you will know that you dream.
3) also, a trick working for me personally is when I wake up in the morning, and have time to sleep in, I tell myself, the next thing I'm going to experience is going to be a dream. this is extremely helpful for me, and has gotten me to the point where I can almost dictate what I want my dreams to be about.
4) also, a tip if you get lucid; it's easy to sort of freak out once you notice, and get over excited, a trick to stay lucid is to rub your hands together, keep rubbing your hands together, and you will stay in your dream. also, spinning your body 360 degrees might work on this.

I've had a couple unintentionally. On both occasions, I basically laid back down an hour or so after waking up. The dreams themselves were quite odd. I remember trying to fly, after which I was floating in the air and it felt sort of like...swimming in the air, hard to describe. I woke up when I touched the ceiling. lawl In the other one, I was walking around in my basement and it wasn't obvious I was dreaming until I tried flicking a light switch on and off and the room kept changing subtly each time I did it.

My uncle is not so into lucid dreaming but more into "The Power of Now"
He was saying that he doesn't take drugs/drink, but he has a few moments in 'The Now' each day and it's really nice feeling.

Still haven't quite got to grips with 'The Now' someone want to try and explain it?

...I may have posted this once but...

..recently..I woke myself up out of a dream...because I heard myself run into something...in the kitchen...

I was dreaming that I was moving around in the kitchen...and I bumped something...and the sound coming from the kitchen woke me up..

That's pretty weird huh...


I also have these daydream issues...I'll be thinking about something far away...and I will start to hear the walls around me bang..like make soft but solid..constant thuds..until I snap out of it..it's as if reality has a conscience of it's own and can call you back..

What if - we as humans are actually captured by realities...what if we are all existing within something larger..an autonomous personal reality that has it's own agenda..external from our being..

What if aliens are putting our souls in places..but sometimes we escape..with our minds..

i practiced (and induced) lucid dreams for couple of years back in the day

it worth trying at least

monroe and carlos castaneda are the best ones to tell you what those are and how to get them. they are a right thing to spend time onto i think

seriously worth getting into

start a dream journal and write what you remember about your dreams as soon as you wake up. if you get up to piss or whatever write a few words so youll trigger your memory in the morning. keep the journal by your bed. its most important to record dreamsigns - anything that would tell you that its not reality. recognizing dreamsigns and becoming conscious of them will help you realize youre dreaming and then you can take control and become lucid.

theres stuff you can do all day to help you become aware. every time you turn on a light think to yourself this is going to turn the light on. another good one is look at a clock, look away, look back and note the same time. in dreams a clock will almost never be the same time and usually isnt even numbers.

before you go to bed everynight spend some time thinking over and over i will recognize dreamsigns, i will become lucid, and i will remember my dreams.

the first few times you realize your dreaming youll most likely get excited and wake up. becoming lucid and staying that way just takes practice. once your lucid just focus on your surroundings and engage with whatevers around. once you get good you can create and do anything.

some of my full bore hippy mates swear by these lucid dreams say its more real than real life and they can do whatever they want... sounds pretty mental, doubt i would ever have the patience to train myself tho haha. i'll stick to drugs and loud music. :)
