3d Wave Terrain Synthesis???

Post by 3za » Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:11 pm

Anyone know of any VST's or Reaktor files with 3 way wavetables, like a 8*8*8 grid of waves you can morph between?

Also anyone got any advice on how to make a oscillator like this in reaktor?

Thanks,
3za.

The wave morph in Absynth is not quite what im looking for, because you can only morph between 2 waveforms at a time.

Think of a chess board, every square represents a different waveform. Now you stack 8 chess boards on top of each other, and you have a 8*8*8 grid of waveforms. so you can now have 3 axis to modulate. I have found that 2 axis wavetables are about, but can't find a 3 axis one anywhere.

don't think there is such a thing (yet), but i could imagine some next level 3d interface for that :o

Damn my brain, always coming up with ideas, but never knowing how to implement them.

I have got some ideas on interface, and a few more tricks for this synth to have up its sleeve. I would like to use a wii remote to control the wavetable position, and I would like to use two of the buttons to be able to switch between wavetables, creating another dimension if you like.

Can NI please make this, then sale it to me :6:

I'm sure you could work out something like this in Reaktor - considering you're looking for ensembles I assume you have it :P.

I have looked for both ensembles, and macros. I have yet to find anything like this in the user library, think I will start a thread over at the NI forum.

I think this is one of the projects you'll have to start from fresh - probably be a steeeeeeeeeeeeeep learning curve if you're not familiar with making your own .ens-'s thats even if its possible :O.

Its got to be possible.

I have made ensembles before, but they have all been fairly simple, and pretty generic. I have never gone in to the core before, and don't really want to ever. I'm sure I can find someone out there how could make this.

Maybe as a startup, download Radian sound labs ensamble called Spawn (http://www.radiansoundlab.com/)
Its a 3 oscilator wavetable synthesizer. Maybe you could strip it down to its bare bones and add an xy amp blender? I dunno.

I will reverse engineer later, and try add a xyz controller. Anyone know how to make a xyz controller? or if their one is available in another ensamble/macro?

Thanks, for the link, and big up on the sound demos.

I did a search for Gladiator, and found out it uses harmonic content morphing (hcm)
http://www.kaosaudio.com/what-is-harmon ... synthesis/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gln7-k5X ... ded#at=196

hcm is not what I am looking for, and I am not total sure how this is different to a wavetable oscillator. I think it's the same as what is the difference between PD, and FM.

Gladiator does looks very good, and I now want it -w-

Whats the application for it?

Just use the 3 wavetables in a synth like atlantis/massive/albino/w.e., automate the mix amounts, route them 3 to one in the matrix.

Same thing in essence, but wont be all on one fader, which is what Im gathering you want right... one wavetable on cetner, one on left, one on right?

Why just 3d? You could do 11d if you desired.

I want it for pads, and atmos mostly. I like using wavetables, but they always fell to linear, and 1d to me. I know you can jump about in them but this always sounds gerkey to me, I want it nice, and smooth.

This would work to some degree, but it would not be a true 3d wavetable. I want to have a virtal 3d environment for the waveforms.
CBK81 wrote:You can do that and more in alchemy.
Going by what I have read about Alchemy, I don't think it can.
samkablaam wrote:3d wavetable. jokes.
Its not a joke, 3d is the big thing right now, even if It does seem a bit like a gimmic. Anyway I am more on about a virtual 3d. Digital synths are capable of so much more then their analogue cousins, and I believe we are just starting to push what they can do.
samkablaam wrote: couldnt you do this with a 2osc or more synth.
No, read what a wavetable is.
nowaysj wrote:Why just 3d? You could do 11d if you desired.
You crazy guy you can't have more then 3 dimensions :6:

I did not want to let all my ideas out on this forum, I want to keep some stuff to myself for the minute. I add a 4th dimension to my idea, and this was then followed by 5th, 6th, and 7th dimension. Even if all these dimension don't exist in the real world, in a digital domain they are endless. I like the idea of starting with 3 and, growing from their.

I have start a thread over at NI Reaktor forum, and things are really kicking off :6:
